The Bowflex SelectTech holds the best rating in this ranking at 4.7 from 1,814 ratings, with eighty-two per cent of them at five stars. It is also the clearest example of the trap in this category: at £165.99 you are buying one dumbbell, not two, so a working pair costs £331.98.

The specification table settles it. The set name is SelectTech 552i, the item weight is 25kg — the weight of one 24kg dumbbell — and the dial runs from 2kg to 24kg per dumbbell. Buyers describe the weight change as smooth years into ownership, and one notes the only real limitation with a smile: they do not get heavier as you get stronger.
