The Night Cat 70L Hiking Backpack is an orange, framed rucksack listed at £79.99, with an aluminium frame, a claimed weight of 1.5 kg and 107 ratings averaging 4.3 out of 5. It takes the last place in this guide, at number 10, and it is here for the reason the guide exists: the litre figure in the product name does not agree with the other numbers printed on the same page.

Multiply out the dimensions that listing gives — 67 x 30 x 10 cm — and you get 20,100 cubic centimetres, or 20.1 litres, against a pack sold as 70L. That is a gap of about 71% before anything is packed into it, and soft fabric bulging does not cover a gap that size. The same listing is also split on materials: the bullet text says Dyneema fabric, while the spec field for outer material says nylon. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing, not from testing we carried out ourselves.
