The Bosch AdvancedChain 36V-35-40 is the number 2 pick in this guide, and it is the version without a battery: £179.95 buys the saw, a scabbard, a chain and bar, a 50ml starter oil bottle and a tensioning aid. Bosch also lists the same saw with a 2.0Ah battery and charger at £256.00, which makes that battery and charger a £76.05 addition rather than a freebie.

Two numbers on this listing do not line up with what they claim to be. The "Horsepower" field reads 36, which is the figure of the 36V battery system, not a horsepower measurement — the listing's own performance number is a chain speed of 14m/s. And the star breakdown adds up to 100 reviews (80 five-star, 7 four-star, 6 three-star, 7 one-star) while the listing states 96 ratings. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing, not from testing we carried out ourselves.
