The number buyers actually judge a compressor on is airflow, and it is the number the listings inflate hardest. The 24-litre TEH TAC24L advertises 250 L/min in its title, 210 L/min in its spec table and 120 L/min at 6 bar in its own bullets. The Hyundai 50L claims 11CFM — roughly 311 L/min — in the title but lists 150 L/min in the specification table. Tank size is not safe either: the ORAZIO is sold as a '24 Litre' air compressor while its own bullet admits an actual tank capacity of 20 litres. When one listing gives you three different figures, none of them is the one to trust.

We ranked ten of the best air compressor models on Amazon on criteria you can check yourself: whether the airflow figure survives from title to spec table to bullet, tank volume, claimed noise in decibels, maximum pressure, and the shape of the review histogram rather than the average alone. Where a listing contradicts itself, we say so and give both numbers.

## The ranking

### 1. Scheppach HC51V 50L Oil-Free Compressor, 1500W

- Price: £199.00 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 594 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/scheppach-hc51v-50l-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GPKXV59?tag=ranked10-21

Top of the ranking on evidence and consistency: 594 ratings at 4.2, and the only 50-litre air compressor here whose 220 L/min appears in both the bullet and the spec table.

It takes first place on the strength of the review base — 594 ratings, the largest in this list, at a 4.2 average — and on one dull but useful detail. Its 220 L/min airflow figure is repeated in the first bullet and in the specification table, which is rare among the machines here. At £199 you get 50 litres, 10 bar and a 1500W oil-free motor.

In practice the vertical format is the selling point. The tank stands on a 350mm-diameter footprint, which matters in a single garage where a horizontal 50-litre machine would eat the bench space. There are two quick couplings, so a hose can stay connected while a blow gun comes on and off. Worth noting: the specification table lists a 10-metre hose, while the included-components line says an 8m hose and accessory kit. One of those is wrong.

The counter-argument is noise. Scheppach claims 97 dB, the loudest air compressor here, so it is not a machine for a shared wall or a small terraced garage at nine in the evening. Meanwhile, the 13-piece kit contains a tyre inflator, blow gun, extension nozzles and valve adapters but no spray gun — for spray painting you buy the gun separately.

Pros: 220 L/min and 10 bar stated consistently in bullet and spec table; 50-litre vertical tank on a 350 mm footprint; Oil-free pump, so no routine oil changes; Two quick couplings plus hose and 13-piece accessory kit; 594 ratings at 4.2, the largest review base here
Cons: 97 dB claimed, the loudest of the ten; Hose listed as 10 m in the spec table and 8 m in the box contents; No spray gun in the 13-piece kit; 220 L/min is intake capacity, not air delivered at the tool

### 2. Hyundai HY3150SX 150L 3HP Belt-Drive Compressor

- Price: £482.99 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 49 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/hyundai-hy3150sx-air-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TJTS85H?tag=ranked10-21

The only high-volume machine in the ranking: 150 litres and a claimed 14CFM, but just 49 ratings, 11 of them one-star.

Second place goes to the biggest tank here by a distance: 150 litres, 3HP, 10 bar and a claimed 75 dB from a belt-drive pump. That is roughly what an air compressor for workshop duty is meant to look like — a spray gun or a die grinder can run for minutes rather than seconds before the motor kicks in. The catch is the evidence base: 49 ratings at 4.4, with 11 one-star reviews among them.

Airflow is where the listing gets slippery. The title and bullets claim 14CFM, which is around 400 L/min. The specification table's airflow field, however, reads '11 Cubic Centimetres Per Minute' — a unit that cannot describe compressor output at all. As a result there is no delivered-air figure you can compare against the cheaper machines here.

It is also not a portable machine, whatever the style field says. At 80 kg and 131 cm long it needs a floor position and two people to move, and the belt-drive pump needs oil and belt checks that the oil-free units do not. If you rent, move workshops, or have a single garage bay, this is the wrong shape of purchase.

Pros: 150-litre tank, the largest in this list; 3HP belt-drive motor with cast iron cylinders; Claimed 75 dB, the second-quietest figure here; 14CFM claimed in both title and bullets; Two-year Hyundai warranty with UK support stated
Cons: Spec table airflow reads '11 Cubic Centimetres Per Minute' — unusable; 80 kg and 131 cm long, so not a one-person move; 49 ratings, 11 of them one-star; Belt drive means oil and belt maintenance

### 3. Einhell TC-AC 200/24/8 OF Compressor, 24L

- Price: £129.00 | Amazon rating: 4.3 from 944 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/einhell-tc-ac-200-24-8-of
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B082P9XF8H?tag=ranked10-21

The value pick and the most-reviewed machine here: 944 ratings at 4.3 for £129, with a 24-litre tank and 180 L/min claimed.

Third place is the most-reviewed machine in this list: 944 ratings at a 4.3 average, at £129. That is a lot of evidence for the money. As a 24 litre air compressor it sits at the small end, but the 1200W oil-free motor claims 180 L/min of suction and 8 bar, which covers tyres, blow guns and light nailing.

The spec table contains one number that is plainly a data-entry error: 'maximum horsepower: 1610'. No 1200W machine makes 1610 hp, and that field should be ignored. The rest is more believable — 24-litre tank, 16 kg, 56 cm long, a quick-release coupling and a drain plug for condensate. In theory that is a genuine one-person lift.

Two things rule it out for some buyers. It claims 96.4 dB, loud enough that hearing protection stops being optional. And with an 8 bar ceiling and a 24-litre tank, it is not the machine for spraying large panels — the motor will be running more than it is resting.

Pros: 944 ratings at 4.3, the largest review base in this list; £129 for a 1200W oil-free motor; 180 L/min claimed suction and 8 bar maximum; 16 kg and 56 cm long, so one person can lift it; Quick-release coupling, pressure gauge and drain plug
Cons: Spec table lists '1610 horsepower', an obvious error; Claimed 96.4 dB, among the loudest here; 24-litre tank and 8 bar ceiling limit spray work; Hose is only 5 m

### 4. Einhell TE-AC 270/50 Silent Plus Compressor, 50L

- Price: £359.95 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 159 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/einhell-te-ac-270-silent
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LQGRNQY?tag=ranked10-21

The quietest machine in the ranking at a claimed 54 dB, but the listing gives no airflow figure at all — the number you actually need.

Fourth place goes to the quiet one. Einhell claims 54 dB (LpA) for the TE-AC 270/50 Silent Plus, which is 5 dB below the next quietest and roughly 40 dB below the loudest machines here. For a garage under a bedroom, or a workshop in a terrace, that is the whole reason to buy it. Meanwhile the tank is a full 50 litres and the motor is 1500W.

The catch: there is no airflow figure anywhere in the listing. Not in the bullets, not in the specification table. Every other machine here at least quotes an intake number, even when that number contradicts itself. For a silent air compressor at £359.95, that is a strange gap — you are paying for quiet without being told what delivered air you get for it.

It also caps out at 8 bar and weighs 42.8 kg, so it is a wheel-it-around-the-garage machine rather than a carry-it-upstairs one. If you need 10 bar for a particular tool, or you are spraying anything larger than a wing mirror, this is not the one.

Pros: Claimed 54 dB, the lowest noise figure here; 50-litre tank with a 1500W oil-free motor; 10-year rust-through warranty on the tank; Vibration-damped feet and large wheels; Drain cock and safety valve listed
Cons: No airflow figure given anywhere in the listing; 8 bar maximum, below the 10 bar machines here; 42.8 kg, and £359.95 is the second-highest price here; 12 of 100 ratings are one-star

### 5. Arebos 30L Compressor with 13-Piece Air Tool Kit

- Price: £144.99 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 523 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/arebos-30l-1500w-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08P53T3TX?tag=ranked10-21

Best bundle on the page: 523 ratings at 4.4, 240 L/min claimed and a 13-piece tool kit for £144.99.

Fifth, and the best bundle here: 240 L/min claimed, 10 bar, 1500W and a 13-piece air tool set for £144.99, with 523 ratings at 4.4 behind it. On paper that is the highest suction figure of anything under £200 in this ranking.

However, two numbers in the same listing disagree with each other. The first bullet calls the machine 'especially quiet'; the sound level field says 97 Decibels. That is the loudest band in this list, not a quiet one. The weight is inconsistent too — 18.5 kg in the bullet, 20 kg in the specification table. By contrast, the tank volume, pressure and airflow figures do line up across both fields.

Who should skip it: anyone working within earshot of other people. At a claimed 97 dB this is a shed or detached-garage machine, not a kitchen one, and 97 dB is what the data says however the marketing line phrases it. Worth noting, the 13-piece kit covers inflation, blowing and cleaning; it does not include a spray gun.

Pros: 240 L/min claimed suction, the highest here under £200; 523 ratings at 4.4; 13-piece accessory kit included; Oil-free, 10 bar and 1500W; 20 kg with rubber wheels and a handle
Cons: Spec says 97 dB while a bullet says 'especially quiet'; Weight given as 18.5 kg in the bullet and 20 kg in the spec; No spray gun in the 13-piece kit; Several bullet lines are cut off mid-sentence in the listing

### 6. Hyundai HY27550X 50L Portable Compressor

- Price: £279.00 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 377 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/hyundai-50l-oil-free-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08F7YTKY7?tag=ranked10-21

A 50-litre tank and a claimed 60 dB, but the title contradicts itself on power: 750W and 2hp in the same line.

Sixth, and the listing that best illustrates the problem this article is about. The title says '750W / 2hp' — those are not the same figure, and 750W is nearer 1hp. The bullet then claims '2HP Performance', while the specification table says 1.5 kilowatts, which is about 2hp. Meanwhile the airflow claim is 11CFM (300 litres per minute) in the bullet against 150 L/min in the specification table — roughly half.

As a portable air compressor, the shape makes sense: 50 litres, 60 dB claimed, an oil-free diaphragm pump, and a weight listed as 37 kg in the bullet and 39 kg in the spec. It runs from a standard 13A plug. Even so, the 7 bar in the specification table sits below the 118 psi in the title, which is around 8.1 bar. Pick whichever number suits.

It is worth buying if you want low noise and a large tank, and can live with modest delivered airflow. It is the wrong buy if you are running a die grinder or a spray gun for long stretches — the figures simply do not support it.

Pros: Claimed 60 dB, one of the quietest here; 50-litre tank and oil-free diaphragm pump; 37–39 kg and a standard 13A plug; Twin gauge regulator and Euro quick-release connectors; 377 ratings at 4.4
Cons: Title says 750W and 2hp in the same line; 11CFM in the bullet against 150 L/min in the spec table; 118 psi claimed in the title, 7 bar in the spec table; Weight listed as 37 kg in the bullet and 39 kg in the spec

### 7. ABAC Ease-AIR 50 Silent Compressor, 1HP, 50L

- Price: £225.99 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 168 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/abac-ease-air-50-silent
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0GSGXSP9J?tag=ranked10-21

Quiet at a claimed 59 dB and £225.99 for 50 litres, but only 1HP and 130 L/min — the weakest airflow of the 50-litre machines here.

Seventh. A 1HP, 50-litre horizontal machine at £225.99, with 168 ratings at 4.2. The claim that matters is the 59 dB noise figure, second only to the Einhell Silent in this list, and the price sits £134 below that machine. That combination — 50 litres, low noise, mid price — is genuinely unusual.

The trade-off is airflow. 130 L/min of aspirated air from a 1HP motor is the lowest of any 50-litre machine in this ranking, and lower than some of the 24-litre machines. In practice that means a tank that fills slowly and empties fast under load; a blow gun is fine, an air sander is not. The horizontal layout also takes 76.4 cm of floor or bench.

Not for you if you need sustained tool use or 10 bar — this one stops at 8 bar. Also worth noting the review distribution: 13 one-star ratings out of roughly 100, a higher proportion of complaints than the 4.2 average alone suggests. In short, buy it for quiet, not for volume.

Pros: Claimed 59 dB, second-quietest here; 50-litre tank at £225.99; Oil-free and mounted on wheels; 168 ratings at 4.2; Runs from a 230V supply
Cons: Only 1HP and 130 L/min — lowest airflow of the 50-litre group; Maximum pressure 8 bar; 76.4 cm horizontal body takes floor or bench space; 13 one-star ratings out of about 100

### 8. TEH TAC24L 24L Compressor, 1500W

- Price: £159.00 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 112 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/teh-tac24l-air-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BSG71X3C?tag=ranked10-21

This listing gives three different airflow figures: 250 L/min in the title, 210 in the spec table and 120 at 6 bar in its own bullets.

Eighth, and the clearest example of the headline problem. In the title, the TAC24L delivers 250 L/min. In the specification table the airflow field reads 210 litres per minute. In the bullets it is 120 L/min at 6 bar and 100 L/min at 8 bar. Those are three different stories about the same machine, and only the bullet version describes air delivered to a tool.

The rest of the offer is reasonable: 1500W (about 2hp), a 24-litre tank, dual gauges and universal couplers, 23.5 kg, and a claimed 75 dB in the bullet against 70 Decibels in the spec table — another mismatch, though a small one. Crucially, the 1500W motor is genuinely larger than the 750W units sold at this tank size.

Buy it if you want fast refills on a 24-litre tank for nailing and inflation. Do not buy it on the strength of 250 L/min, because the same listing will not stand behind that number anywhere else. And with 112 ratings, it has the thinnest evidence base of the mid-priced machines here.

Pros: 1500W motor, larger than the 750W units at this tank size; 24-litre tank with dual pressure gauges; 112 ratings at 4.4; Oil-free and maintenance-free; Universal couplers and 23.5 kg
Cons: Three airflow figures in one listing: 250, 210 and 120 L/min; Noise quoted as 75 dB in the bullet and 70 dB in the spec; Only 112 ratings, the thinnest mid-priced evidence here; 8 bar maximum pressure

### 9. ORAZIO 24-Litre Oil-Free Silent Compressor, 750W

- Price: £129.99 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 334 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/orazio-24-litre-air-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KDEVR9G?tag=ranked10-21

Sold as a 24-litre tank, but its own bullet states an actual tank capacity of 20 litres.

Ninth. The ORAZIO is a 750W, 65 dB machine with 334 ratings at 4.4 for £129.99, and on the noise figure it does well — only three machines here claim less. The problem is the tank. The title, the capacity field and the model name all say 24 litres. The tank volume field says 20 litres, and the first bullet says 'Actual Tank Capacity: 20L'. That is roughly 17% less air storage than the name implies.

Two other units are inconsistent. Maximum pressure is given as 700 kilopascals, about 7 bar, rather than the bar figures used everywhere else in this list. And the airflow figure of 125 L/min is lower than the 24-litre Einhell's 180 L/min, despite a similar tank and a similar price. At the same time, the 750W motor runs at 1450rpm, which is why the noise claim is credible.

It suits tyres, blow cleaning and light inflation in a flat or small garage where 65 dB matters. It does not suit anything needing sustained volume — a spray gun or a sander will empty a 20-litre tank quickly, and 750W will take a while to refill it.

Pros: Claimed 65 dB, quieter than most here; 334 ratings at 4.4; £129.99 and 22 kg; Oil-free with a pressure gauge regulator; 750W motor running at 1450rpm
Cons: Sold as 24 litres; the tank volume field and the bullet both say 20 litres; 125 L/min, lower than the 24-litre Einhell; Maximum pressure given only as 700 kPa; No hose or accessory kit included

### 10. Draper 02115 6L Oil-Free Compressor, 1.2kW

- Price: £102.40 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 333 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-air-compressors/draper-6l-oil-free-air-compressor
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N6Y81SH?tag=ranked10-21

The cheapest here at £102.40 and the smallest: a 6-litre tank with a 185 l/min displacement figure that is not delivered air.

Tenth, and the cheapest machine in the ranking at £102.40, with 333 ratings at 4.4. The headline figure is 185 l/min of air displacement from a 1.2kW, 4000rpm motor. That is a displacement figure, not free air delivery — the two are not the same, and only one of them tells you what reaches the tool.

In practice the 6-litre tank is the limitation. A compressor that displaces 185 l/min into a 6-litre receiver will run almost constantly under any real load, which is why the listing is honest about the intended uses: air brushing and small inflation jobs. There is also an oddity in the dimensions field — 13.8 x 12.4 x 13 cm, smaller than the 6-litre tank it is meant to contain.

It is a good first machine for tyres, airbrushing and dusting, and at 8.78 kg it goes on a shelf. It is the wrong machine for nailing, spraying panels or running any tool that needs volume, and its claimed 97 dB is as loud as the biggest compressors here.

Pros: £102.40, the lowest price here; 333 ratings at 4.4; 8.78 kg, the lightest machine in this ranking; 1.2kW motor with pressure switch and outlet gauge; Quick euro coupling outlet
Cons: 6-litre tank, the smallest here; 185 l/min is displacement, not delivered air; Dimensions listed as 13.8 x 12.4 x 13 cm, smaller than the tank; Claimed 97 dB, as loud as the biggest machines here

## Verdict

For most homes and small workshops, the Scheppach HC51V at £199 is the sensible first buy: 50 litres, a 220 L/min figure that survives from bullet to spec table, and 594 ratings at 4.2. If noise is the deciding factor, the Einhell TE-AC 270/50 Silent Plus is the quietest air compressor here at a claimed 54 dB, but it costs £359.95 and quotes no airflow figure at all. If you spray paint or run a belt-drive workshop tool, the 150-litre Hyundai is the only one with the tank volume for long runs; at 80 kg it is not an air compressor you move on your own.
