The Bacalar is the second memory foam topper in this ranking and the second heaviest at 6.91kg. It is a 7cm slab cut into seven zones — firmer under the shoulders and hips, softer under the middle — with a zipped, machine-washable cover, 4.6 stars from 980 ratings and the same 100-night trial and 10-year warranty as the winner.

It costs slightly more than the BONNVIA and carries slightly less filling, which is the only reason it is second rather than first. The difference is in the zoning and the feel: buyers who want support in specific places describe it as firm rather than plush, which makes it the topper here to choose if the problem is a back that aches rather than a mattress that feels old.

## Questions people ask

**What does seven-zone mean?**

The foam is cut so different areas have different firmness — more support under the shoulders and hips, softer in between — instead of one uniform slab.

**Is it firm?**

Yes. Buyers describe it as firm rather than plush, and one reviewer hoped it would soften with use. It is the wrong choice if your mattress is already hard.

**How much filling does it have?**

The listing puts the item weight at 6.91kg, against 3.25kg to 3.83kg for the 10cm fibre toppers in this ranking.

**Can I wash it?**

The zipped cover can be removed and machine washed. The foam core cannot.

**What warranty comes with it?**

A 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty, as stated by the maker in the listing.

**How many ratings does it have?**

980 at the time of collection, averaging 4.6 stars, with 79 per cent five-star and 3 per cent one-star.
