The Modernique Double (4ft6) grey fabric ottoman bed is the cheapest of the beds compared in this guide at £174.99, and it takes the top spot on a 4.5 out of 5 rating from 359 reviews. It is a gas lift-up storage bed with a fabric-covered base, a 90.5 cm headboard, sprung wooden slats and a solid wooden and metal frame; the mattress is not included.

The number that does not hold up is the rating itself. The listing header says 359 reviews, but the rating bars printed underneath add up to 100 — 77 five-star, 13 four-star, 4 three-star, 1 two-star and 5 one-star. That is still a strong shape, with only 6% in the bottom two bars, but it is a shape drawn from 100 ratings rather than 359. The specifications are loose in other places too: the title says Double (4ft6) while Compatible With Mattress Size lists Single, Double/Full, Queen and King. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing — we have not slept on this bed or measured it ourselves.
