The Vida Designs Vanita is a double ottoman bed frame in dark grey, priced at £179.99, with a gas-lift base that raises to reveal storage underneath. The listing gives its dimensions as H 85 x W 147 x D 206 cm, a fabric headboard, and a fabric furniture finish. It takes the last place in our guide to ottoman beds.

It is also the clearest example of the point this guide keeps coming back to. The headline score is 4.0 out of 5 from 111 ratings, which reads as a solid, unremarkable product. The histogram underneath tells a different story: 10 bars of 1 star and 7 bars of 2 star, so 17 in every 100 ratings sit at the bottom of the scale, against 54 at 5 star. There is a second oddity in the same block — the five bars add up to 100, while the listing states 111 ratings. The specification fields disagree with each other too: Finish Type is given as "Unfinished" while Furniture Finish is given as "Fabric". Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing and the ratings shown there, not from any testing we carried out.
