# Best Toilet Seats: 9 Ranked, and Why the Load Figures Don't Add Up

Published: 2026-09-19 | Updated: 2026-09-19 | Prices checked on Amazon UK on 2026-09-19

Our ranking of the best toilet seats on Amazon turned up a pattern that runs backwards: the load ratings climb as the material gets cheaper. The SURFOU, made from reinforced PP, prints 200kg in its highlight field at £42.80. The WOLTU, in duroplast, claims 175kg for £29.99. Both DERW seats, which use urea-formaldehyde, stop at 150kg. In short, the softer the plastic, the bigger the number on the box.

We ranked nine of the best toilet seats on Amazon on four things you can check yourself: the material actually listed in the spec table, the fit dimensions, whether the load claim matches that material, and how many buyers have rated it — a spread from 120 to 10,537. Meanwhile, two adverts here contradict themselves on their own spec sheet, and we point both out.

## The ranking

### 1. SA Products Oval Quick Release Toilet Seat, Soft Close, White

- Price: £17.99 | Amazon rating: 4.4 from 10,537 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/sa-products-quick-release-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074N6D85M?tag=ranked10-21

Top of the best toilet seats ranking on volume rather than claims: 10,537 ratings at 4.4 stars and first place in Amazon's Toilet Seats category, for £17.99.

Any list of the best toilet seats has to start with the one most people actually buy, and that is this one: 10,537 ratings at 4.4 stars, and first place in Amazon's Toilet Seats category. At £17.99 it is the second cheapest seat here, and it still outsells everything else on the page.

In practice, the seat measures 43.2 x 36.5cm and weighs 1.48kg, so it is a light oval lid rather than a heavy one. The soft close runs on ABS cylinders, and the one-touch quick release lets you lift the whole seat off the hinges for cleaning. Fixings are included, and the hinges are adjustable at the time of fitting.

The catch is in the material fields. The bullets describe an O-shaped thermoset lid, while the Material entry lists Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) — two different plastics in one advert. There is also no hole spacing published anywhere, so if your pan has unusual mounting holes, measure before ordering. Six per cent of its ratings are one-star.

Pros: 10,537 ratings at 4.4 stars, the largest review base in this ranking; £17.99 — second cheapest of the nine; One-touch quick release toilet seat hinge for cleaning under the rim; Soft close cylinders described as ABS, lowering the lid without a slam; Fittings included and hinges adjustable at fitting
Cons: Bullets say thermoset lid, spec table says ABS — the two do not match; No hole spacing published, so a D-shaped or non-standard pan is a gamble; Light at 1.48kg, and 6% of ratings are one-star; Only an oval fit is described, with no mounting hole measurements

### 2. Harbour Housewares Soft Close Wooden Toilet Seat, White

- Price: £22.99 | Amazon rating: 4.3 from 3,706 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/harbour-housewares-soft-close-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RGWYX2D?tag=ranked10-21

The heaviest seat in the list at 3.8kg, built from MDF rather than plastic, with 4.3 stars from 3,706 ratings.

Second place goes to the only genuinely warm-to-touch seat here. MDF at 3.8kg holds heat where plastic stays cold, and 4.3 stars from 3,706 ratings puts it just behind the leader on score. At £22.99 it sits in the middle of the price range, and Amazon lists it sixth in Toilet Seats.

The outer ring measures 43.2 x 37.5 x 1.9cm, so it is 1cm wider than the SA Products seat above it. The lid carries a grooved pattern, and the soft close mechanism lowers both seat and lid. Fixings come in the box and the manufacturer says no extra tools are needed.

That said, one field disagrees with the description. Operation Mode is listed as Manual while the name and the bullets both promise a soft close mechanism. MDF is also the wrong material for a permanently wet bathroom, and at 3.8kg this is nearly twice the weight of the cheapest seat here. If you want the best toilet seat for a cold bathroom and you can keep it dry, it earns its place.

Pros: 4.3 stars from 3,706 ratings; MDF body at 3.8kg — the heaviest and warmest seat in this list; Outer ring 43.2 x 37.5 x 1.9cm, 1cm wider than the cheapest oval here; Grooved lid design with soft close on both seat and lid; Fittings and fixings included
Cons: Operation Mode is listed as Manual, contradicting the soft close name; MDF dislikes standing water; 3.8kg is a heavy lid to lift and refit; £22.99 is not the cheapest option here

### 3. DERW D-Shaped Soft Close Toilet Seat, Quick Release, White

- Price: £26.99 | Amazon rating: 4.5 from 977 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/derw-d-shape-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0F4XMN46J?tag=ranked10-21

Joint highest rating in the list at 4.5 stars, from 977 ratings, with an alignment guide and dual-button quick release for £26.99.

This is the first of two DERW seats, and the highest rated of the pair by volume: 4.5 stars from 977 ratings at £26.99. It is seventh in Amazon's Toilet Seats category, lower than its score suggests, and crucially it is the only seat among the best toilet seats here that ships with an alignment guide — a paper template that removes most of the guesswork from fitting.

The d-shaped toilet seat measures 460 x 365 x 50mm and is designed for pans with a 445–480mm length from the mounting hole to the rim. The dual-button quick release drops the seat off for cleaning, and the golden corner bumps are there to stop it shifting. Weight capacity is printed at 150kg.

However, the material is described two ways: the bullets say high-quality PP, the spec table says Premium Thermoplastic. Those are the same family of plastic, though not the same wording, and PP is the cheapest material in this ranking while carrying the joint-highest score. Either way, if your pan is shorter than 445mm or longer than 480mm, this seat will not line up.

Pros: 4.5 stars from 977 ratings; Alignment guide included to line the seat up on the pan; Dual-button quick release for lifting it off to clean; 150kg weight capacity with buffer pads at the corners; Fits pans 445–480mm from mounting hole to rim
Cons: Bullets say PP, spec table says Premium Thermoplastic; Won't suit pans outside 445–480mm; 150kg is the lowest claim in the list; Seventh in Toilet Seats despite the high score

### 4. GRIFEMA G951 D-Shape Soft Close Toilet Seat, Urea-Formaldehyde

- Price: £27.89 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 3,253 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/grifema-g951-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GJGK11D?tag=ranked10-21

Urea-formaldehyde construction and a 5-year manufacturer warranty at £27.89, though the advert publishes two different sizes for the same seat.

GRIFEMA's G951 is the cheaper of the two urea-formaldehyde seats here at £27.89, and it carries 3,253 ratings at 4.2 stars. Its best sellers rank tells a different story from the score: 222nd in Toilet Seats, far below seats with fewer reviews behind them. A five-year manufacturer warranty is the longest stated in this ranking.

The material is urea-formaldehyde, which the maker claims is more scratch resistant than PP and less prone to fading and deforming. There is a quick release button on the hinge, four non-slip buffers to stop the seat shifting, and an adjustable hinge to line up with your fixing holes. Weight is 1.65kg.

Worth noting, the dimensions contradict each other. The highlight field says it fits toilets 38.2–44.2cm long. The Item Dimensions field says 17.5L x 3.6W centimetres, which is roughly the size of a hinge, not a seat. In theory one of the two is a typo. Measure your own pan either way, and skip this one if you want published hole spacing, because none is given.

Pros: Urea-formaldehyde body at 1.65kg; 3,253 ratings at 4.2 stars; 5-year manufacturer warranty — the longest stated in this list; Quick release button and four non-slip buffers; Adjustable hinge to match your fixing holes
Cons: Highlight says 38.2–44.2cm long, spec table says 17.5 x 3.6cm — one is wrong; 222nd in Toilet Seats despite the large review base; No hole spacing published; 8% of ratings are one-star

### 5. WOLTU Soft Close O-Shaped Toilet Seat, 175kg Load Capacity

- Price: £29.99 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 2,865 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/woltu-ws2975-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CZL3P3J4?tag=ranked10-21

The most complete fit data of the nine and a 175kg load claim — between the reinforced plastic seats and the urea-formaldehyde ones — at £29.99.

WOLTU's duroplast seat sits in the middle of the load-claim ladder: 175kg, more than either DERW, less than the SURFOU. At £29.99 it comes with 2,865 ratings at 4.2 stars and stainless steel hinges that the maker says will not rust.

This oval toilet seat gives more fit information than anything else here: outer edge 37 x 47.5cm, inner edge 23.1 x 29cm, hole spacing 13–17cm. That is enough to measure your own pan against before ordering. The soft close mechanism is built into the hinge, and pressing the quick release button lifts the seat off for cleaning.

At the same time, 47.5cm is the longest outer measurement in the top half of this list, so a compact pan will leave it overhanging. It is 66th in Toilet Seats, and 7% of its ratings are one-star. If your bowl is standard and you want the numbers upfront, this is the one to check.

Pros: Full fit dimensions: 37 x 47.5cm outer, 23.1 x 29cm inner, 13–17cm hole spacing; 175kg load claim, paired with stainless steel hinges; 2,865 ratings at 4.2 stars; Built-in soft close and press-button quick release; Top-mounting system with fittings included
Cons: 47.5cm outer length is long — check your pan first; 66th in Toilet Seats; 7% of ratings are one-star; Its 175kg claim is beaten by a reinforced PP seat costing £12.81 more

### 6. DERW O-Shaped Soft Close Toilet Seat, Urea-Formaldehyde

- Price: £33.99 | Amazon rating: 4.5 from 480 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/derw-soft-close-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DYJZGFH8?tag=ranked10-21

The second DERW and the joint highest rated at 4.5 stars, though from 480 ratings and £7 more than the D-shaped version.

This is the O-shaped half of the DERW pair, and it scores the same 4.5 stars as the D-shaped one but from 480 ratings rather than 977. It is 21st in Toilet Seats, which is the strongest category position of any seat in the top half of this list, and it costs £33.99.

The body is urea-formaldehyde resin, which the maker says resists ageing and discolouration, and the load claim is 150kg — identical to the D-shaped DERW, despite a different shape and a higher price. Dimensions are 450 x 375 x 60mm, for pans measuring 425–465mm from mounting hole to rim. A single-button quick release unclips the seat, and buffer pads cut noise.

Even so, £33.99 buys you the same 150kg claim and the same 4.5-star rating as the £26.99 D-shaped model from the same brand, plus 10mm more height. The 60mm profile is the thickest seat here. If your pan is an O-shape and you want the quieter close, it is fine; if you want the best soft close toilet seat for the money from this brand, the D-shaped one is cheaper.

Pros: 4.5 stars from 480 ratings; 21st in Amazon's Toilet Seats category; Urea-formaldehyde resin at 3kg; Single-button quick release and noise-reducing buffer pads; Fits pans 425–465mm from mounting hole to rim
Cons: £33.99 is £7 more than the D-shaped DERW with the same 150kg claim; Only 480 ratings, against 977 for the D-shaped version; 60mm height is the thickest here; 150kg is the lowest load claim in the list

### 7. Sanilo Soft Close Wooden Toilet Seat, Black Wood

- Price: £46.74 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 2,972 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/sanilo-soft-close-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09VXWRXNL?tag=ranked10-21

The most expensive seat here at £46.74 and the only printed wood-finish option, with 4.2 stars from 2,972 ratings.

At £46.74 the Sanilo is the most expensive seat in this ranking, roughly three times the cheapest. It justifies part of that with a wood body and a printed finish, and it carries 2,972 ratings at 4.2 stars — a large review base for the price bracket. It ranks 103rd in Toilet Seats.

The seat is made from break-resistant wood and mounted on six spacers, which the maker says improves comfort. It installs from above with a screwdriver, so you do not need to reach behind the pan, and the lid detaches at the press of a button for cleaning. Dimensions are 48 x 37.7cm and it weighs 3kg.

By contrast with the rest of this page, Sanilo publishes no hole spacing and no pan length range. The claim that it fits all common wall-mounted and free-standing bowls is not backed by a single measurement in the listing. At 48cm it is also the longest seat here. If your pan is anything other than standard, that is a real risk at this price.

Pros: Wood body with a printed finish on all four sides; 2,972 ratings at 4.2 stars; Installs from above with a screwdriver; Lid detaches at the press of a button for cleaning; Six spacers fitted for stability
Cons: £46.74 — the most expensive seat in this list; No hole spacing or pan length range published; 48cm is the longest outer measurement here; Universal fit claim has no measurements behind it

### 8. Harbour Housewares Oval Soft Close Toilet Seat, Quick Release

- Price: £15.99 | Amazon rating: 4.2 from 632 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/harbour-housewares-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CKBYKYMC?tag=ranked10-21

The cheapest seat here at £15.99 and ninth in Amazon's Toilet Seats category, with a 2-year warranty and 632 ratings at 4.2 stars.

This is the cheapest seat on the page at £15.99, and it still manages 9th place in Amazon's Toilet Seats category with 632 ratings at 4.2 stars. For the best toilet seat for the money in the strictest sense, this is the one — though the savings come with gaps in the spec.

It is built from what Harbour Housewares calls Duraplast and measures 44 x 36.5cm, close to the SA Products seat at the top of this list. You get a toilet seat with soft close operation, a quick release button that removes the seat in seconds, and all fittings included. A 2-year warranty is stated.

That said, two things are missing. No weight capacity is published anywhere, and neither is hole spacing — the spec table simply says Plastic. The material name Duraplast is a brand term, not a listed material. Meanwhile 8% of ratings are one-star, the second highest share of low scores in this ranking.

Pros: £15.99 — the cheapest seat here; 4.2 stars from 632 ratings and 9th in Toilet Seats; Soft close lid with a quick release button; Fittings included, 44 x 36.5cm oval; 2-year manufacturer warranty
Cons: No weight capacity published; No hole spacing published; material listed only as Plastic; 8% of ratings are one-star; Duraplast is a marketing name, not a spec-table material

### 9. SURFOU D-Shape Soft Close Toilet Seat, Reinforced PP

- Price: £42.80 | Amazon rating: 4.1 from 120 ratings
- Full review: https://www.ranked10.co.uk/home/best-toilet-seats/surfou-d-shape-toilet-seat
- Buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0G1M64TZT?tag=ranked10-21

The biggest load claim in the list at 200kg, and the highest price at £42.80 — but also the fewest ratings at 120 and the lowest score at 4.1.

And here is the number that started this article. The SURFOU claims 200kg in its highlight field, the highest of the nine best toilet seats ranked here, and it costs £42.80 — more than the two urea-formaldehyde DERW seats that claim 150kg each. Meanwhile it has the smallest review base, 120 ratings, and the lowest score, 4.1 stars.

The seat is reinforced PP with 304 stainless steel hinges, and it fits hole spacings from 9.4cm to 16.4cm — the narrowest range published here, which means it suits pans with closely spaced mounting holes rather than wide ones. It measures 45 x 37cm and weighs 2.19kg, and the top-fixing design means you can install it without crawling behind the pan.

The catch is the review spread: 11% of ratings are one-star and 12% are three-star, so nearly a quarter sit at three stars or below — the highest such share in this ranking. Reinforced PP is also the cheapest material of the three types on this page, which makes a 200kg claim the hardest to take at face value. If you want a d-shaped toilet seat with the highest stated load and you are happy to be an early adopter, it may suit; if you want proof from a large review base, look higher up.

Pros: 200kg load claim — the highest stated in this list; 304 stainless steel hinges; Hole spacing range published: 9.4–16.4cm; Top-fixing design, 45 x 37cm, 2.19kg; Soft close and one-button quick release
Cons: 11% one-star and 12% three-star — nearly a quarter at three stars or below; 120 ratings, the smallest review base here; £42.80 for a reinforced PP seat, the cheapest material type on this page; Narrowest hole spacing range published, so it won't suit wide mounting holes

## Verdict

For most homes, the SA Products oval seat at £17.99 is the sensible default: 10,537 ratings at 4.4 stars and first place in Amazon's Toilet Seats category, even so its bullets and its spec table name two different plastics. If you want a soft close toilet seat in a D-shape, the DERW at £26.99 is the better bet — 4.5 stars from 977 ratings and an alignment guide in the box. If you need the best toilet seat for the money, the Harbour Housewares oval undercuts everything here at £15.99, though it publishes no weight capacity and no hole spacing at all. In short, the cheapest of the best toilet seats on this page is not the one with the biggest number printed on the advert, which is the whole point. Check your pan's hole spacing first, then buy on material and review base rather than on the load figure.
