by Amazon Extra White is a 10-litre clumping clay litter weighing 8.5kg for £11.99 — £1.41 per kilo — with 4.3 stars from 4,986 ratings.

It takes seventh because of the price per kilo: 70 per cent more than the branded clumping litter here for the same volume, which is the opposite of the usual own-brand story. The white clay and the honest note about dust are what you get for it.

## Questions people ask

**Why is the own brand dearer?**

Because it is an extra-white ultra-clumping clay, and the branded bag beside it at £0.83 a kilo is a standard white clay. Per kilo, the branded one wins.

**Why choose white litter?**

Pale litter makes it easier to see blood or changes in urine, which is a health signal for cats.

**Is it scented?**

No, it is unscented, which suits cats that avoid perfumed litters.

**Does it create dust?**

Buyers describe it as not very dusty; silica dust is the health consideration with clay litter.

**How much does a bag weigh?**

8.5kg, which is what to compare when working out the price per kilo.

**How many ratings does it have?**

4986 at the time of collection, averaging 4.3 stars, with 67 per cent five-star and 7 per cent one-star.
