It takes first place because that evidence is unmatched for a safety product, because it is the cheapest metal gate here and because the extension is included rather than sold on top.

## Questions people ask

**Does it need drilling?**

No: it is pressure mounted, though that also means it needs a square opening to hold.

**Is the extension included?**

Yes, unlike the Munchkin at number five whose extensions are sold separately.

**How wide does it fit?**

73.6 to 95.5cm, which is a typical doorway or the bottom of a staircase.

**Is it safe for stairs?**

It is rated for the bottom of stairs; the manufacturer does not recommend pressure gates at the top.

**Why is it first?**

Because a hundred thousand ratings on a safety product is evidence nobody else here comes near.

**How many ratings does it have?**

103636 at the time of collection, averaging 4.3 stars, with 67 per cent five-star and 7 per cent one-star.
