The ModusTech Facet 1TB sits at number 7 in our guide to 1TB external hard drives, and it earns the place for a simple reason: its own listing contradicts itself on speed. The spec table gives a read speed of 625 MB/s and, three lines later, a media speed of 100 MB/s. Both figures describe the same 2.5-inch mechanical drive, and they cannot both be right. The 625 MB/s number is the ceiling of a 5 Gbps USB 3.0 link written as though it were drive speed — and the bullets underneath add a second figure, up to 10 Gbps over USB-C.

At £52.91 with 4.4 out of 5 from 2,511 ratings, the Facet is the middle-priced drive in this guide. The ratings break down with 70% at five stars and 6% at one star. The listing also gives a rotational speed of 7,200 RPM for a portable 2.5-inch disk, which sits oddly beside the same table's 100 MB/s media speed. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing, not from any testing we carried out.

## Questions people ask

**How fast does the ModusTech Facet 1TB transfer files?**

The ModusTech listing gives more than one answer. The spec table lists a read speed of 625 MB/s and a media speed of 100 MB/s for the same MT500 drive, while the bullets promise up to 5 Gbps over USB 3.0 and up to 10 Gbps over USB-C. The two spec-table figures are roughly six times apart.

**Is the ModusTech Facet 1TB plug and play?**

Yes. The ModusTech listing says the drive is pre-formatted and ready to use out of the box with no software installation, working with Windows, Mac, Android phones, iPhone 15/16 and consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One.

**Does the ModusTech Facet 1TB work with a phone?**

The listing claims compatibility with Android phones and iPhone 15/16 through the supplied 2-in-1 USB-C to USB-C/USB 3.0 cable. One buyer, Jennifer Riascos, reported that the drive did not work directly from her phone but did work from her computer.

**What is in the box with the ModusTech Facet?**

The listing's Box Contents field names only a Quick Start Guide/Manual, while one of the product bullets says a 2-in-1 USB-C to USB-C/USB 3.0 cable is included. The two parts of the ModusTech listing do not match on this point.

**What storage capacities does the ModusTech Facet come in?**

The ModusTech listing offers 500GB, 1TB or 2TB. This page covers the 1TB version at £52.91.

**Is the ModusTech Facet a mechanical drive or an SSD?**

The listing describes it as a Mechanical Hard Disk in a 2.5-inch form factor with a plastic enclosure, listed at 7,200 RPM. The model number is MT500.
