The fanxiang S101 is a 2.5-inch SATA III internal SSD with 1TB of storage, listed at £99.99 and rated 4.5 out of 5 across 23,378 ratings. It sits fourth in this guide, and it is the drive that shows how little separates the speed claims at the top of the category: the fanxiang claims up to 550MB/s, the Samsung 870 EVO claims 560MB/s, and the fanxiang is £190.78 cheaper.

The number that does not hold together is on the fanxiang's own page. The bullet points and the specification table both say 550MB/s, but the same specification table also lists a Media Speed of 500MB/s and a Data Transfer Rate of 530 Mb/s — three figures for one drive, with nothing to explain which applies when. Two other fields are worth flagging before you buy: Cache Memory Installed Size is given as 1TB, the same number as the drive's total capacity, and Colour is listed as "Previous Generation", which is not a colour. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing, not from any testing we have carried out.
