At number 3 in this guide, the WD_BLACK SN850X WDS400T2XHE is a 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive in the M.2 2280 size, priced at £499.99 and rated 4.8 out of 5 from 15,665 ratings. Its headline figure is the one number in this guide that survives contact with its own spec table: the bullets promise up to 7,300MB/s for the 1TB–4TB models, and the table underneath gives that same 7,300MB/s as both Read Speed and Data Transfer Rate.

That does not make the advert tidy. The same table lists a Media Speed of 6,600MB/s with no explanation of the 700MB/s gap, gives the form factor as both 'M.2 2280' and '2.5 Inches', names the interface as 'PCIE x 4' while Hardware Connectivity says 'PCIE x 16', and ticks 'Sony PlayStation 4' as the compatible console while the Compatible Devices field says PS5. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing — we have not tested the drive ourselves.

## Questions people ask

**Is the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB compatible with a PS5?**

The Compatible Devices field names 'Laptop, Motherboards, PS5', but the Compatible Video Game Console Models field on the same listing says 'Sony PlayStation 4'. The advert contradicts itself.

**What read speed does the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB claim?**

The bullets say up to 7,300MB/s for the 1TB–4TB models, and the spec table repeats it as both Read Speed and Data Transfer Rate. Unlike the drives above it in this guide, the number does not change between the marketing text and the table.

**The spec table also lists a Media Speed of 6,600MB/s. Which figure is right?**

The advert does not say. It gives 7,300MB/s as Read Speed and Data Transfer Rate and 6,600MB/s as Media Speed, a 700MB/s difference with no note explaining it.

**Does the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB come with a heatsink?**

The Product Features field says 'Heatsink', and the bullets say all capacities have an optional heatsink version. The description does not say whether the heatsink is fitted or supplied separately.

**What size is the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB?**

The Form Factor field says M.2 2280, which is the size an internal PS5 needs. The Hard Disk Form Factor field in the same table says 2.5 Inches, which is not.

**How is the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB rated by buyers?**

4.8 out of 5 across 15,665 ratings. The breakdown shown lists 88 five-star ratings against 2 one-star ones.
