Rank #10 in Best Lawn Scarifier 2026: 10 Ranked, and the 36V Trap
VonHaus Cordless Lawn Scarifier, 2 x 20V, 38cm
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The VonHaus cordless scarifier is the only machine on this list that arrives with its batteries in the box: the listing names two 20V 4Ah packs and a dual charger, which is why it costs £239.99 where the £164.99 cordless higher up the ranking is a bare tool. It takes the number 10 slot here.
The '40V' in the title is those two 20V packs added together rather than a voltage any part of the machine runs at, and the listing gives its runtime as 'up to 25 minutes (no-load)' — a figure taken with nothing resisting the drum. Everything on this page comes from the product's Amazon listing and not from a test by us.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“I purchased this based on reviews and I am completely satisfied. I scarified 290 square metres of moss and weed filled lawn with 2 charges of the battery. Great piece of machinery it saved a lot of hard work.”
Verified purchase“If you haven't used a scarifier before, don't be tempted to start at a low setting. If you do you are in danger of digging holes in the lawn and getting trailed around the garden 😁. Set it to the highest setting to begin with and you'll see if it is removing any thatch moss etc.My garden hadn't been done in 20 years. It's 1800 sq ft had I divided it in half for my trial run. I did the first half and ended up with 3 large bin bags of rubbish. I went in for lunch and took the opportunity to recharge the batteries . I did the second half and had another 3 bags to dispose off.The next day, having recharged again, I dropped the scarifier down a notch and did the whole garage, well almost 😁. On the last strip of 60 ft the batteries died. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed, I was glad to get sitting down. The scarifier is easy to use and was stable on my uneven ground and while I'm pleased with having the ability to cover so much ground without a trailing electrical cable, I have a couple of gripes..If you have a lot of thatch and moss then the scarifier will fill the basket in seconds and you'll spend more time emptying it. I removed the basket and tied up the flap. Of course this means all the debris is left on the ground. I then run my ride on mower over the lawn to lift it. Much quicker and easier. The other thing I noticed is that the batteries and the battery charger get pretty warm when charging. The charger in particular was very warm to the touch. I won't be leaving it unattended while charging. The reality is that the scarifier will only be used once or twice a year so durability shouldn't be a problem.”

Questions people ask
Does the VonHaus scarifier come with batteries?
Yes. The specification line reads '2 Lithium Ion batteries required. (included)', and the bullets describe two 20V 4Ah batteries plus a dual battery charger that refills them in two hours.
Why is it called 40V when the batteries are 20V?
Because two 20V packs are quoted together as 40V. The listing never states that any part of the machine runs at 40 volts.
How long does a charge last?
The listing quotes 'up to 25 minutes (no-load)'. No-load means the drum is turning with nothing resisting it, so a lawn full of moss will not match that figure.
How deep does it scarify?
There are five depth settings between -12mm and 6mm. VonHaus recommends starting at the highest position and lowering it to suit the lawn.
The title says scarifier, aerator and rake — how many drums are there?
The bullets describe it as '2-IN-1' with a raking drum for moss and a scarifying drum for root removal, swapped over by hand. Two drums are listed, not three.
Why do the star bars not match the review count?
The listing shows 55 ratings, while the bar breakdown of 6 one-star, 7 three-star, 14 four-star and 73 five-star totals 100. Either the bars are percentages or one of the two figures is wrong.
