The New World Folding Metal Dog Exercise Pen, model B552-30, is third in our best dog playpens guide. It is eight steel panels, each 61cm wide and 76cm tall, finished in black e-coat and priced at £31.38 — well below the two acrylic pens that carry the biggest price tags in the guide. There is no door. The listing reports 4.7 out of 5 from 34,373 ratings.

Panel counts are the slippery part of this category, so it is worth testing this one's numbers against each other. The listing states 1.5 square metres (16 square feet) of enclosed space, and the panel figures support it: eight panels at 61cm is 4.88m of fence, which arranged as a square with two panels per side gives sides of 1.22m and 1.49 square metres. For comparison, the 10-panel acrylic pen at 42cm a panel works out at 1.06 square metres — two more panels, less floor. The one loose end here is cosmetic: the bullet writes the panel size as 24' x 30', using feet marks for what the centimetre figures and the item name both give as 24 and 30 inches.

Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing for this pen and from buyer reviews quoted there, not from any testing of our own.

What buyers actually say

“Absolutely fantastic. Bought an amazon return one for a reduced price and there's nothing wrong with it apart from a few minor scratches on the paint work. Bargain! It's exactly the dimesions stated.Tall enough for a cockador (medium sized dog) I am using as a barrier leant on a fence and attached at each end to stop exit out of garden temporarily. Can be turned into a pen (its proper purpose!)It has clips to connect. Probably better as a pen for a small dog/small puppy/ mother with puppies rather than something to pen in a larger dog. It wouldn't be safe if your dog is large and aggressive for example. A larger dog would jump or push it over easily so maybe best to buy a reinforced very large cage for better safety.”
