Tuda Grass Direct Bodrum 40mm

Is the Tuda Grass Direct Bodrum 40mm worth buying?

Yes, if the piece you need is roughly a square metre: the Tuda Grass Direct Bodrum 40mm costs £9.99 for a 1 m by 1 m square of 40mm pile, which is the deepest turf in this range, and 563 buyers rate it 4.5. It is the right buy for a balcony corner, a patch beside a path or the bare spot where a bench used to sit, because 40mm stands up barefoot in a way a 15mm mat does not.

It is the wrong buy for a whole lawn. Every square metre costs another £9.99, so 6 m² comes to £59.94, while the 6 m² Antalya covers the same area in 30mm pile for £39. Buy the Bodrum where the area is small enough that depth is what you notice, and look elsewhere once you are past two square metres.

What does 40mm of pile cost per square metre?

£9.99 per square metre, which is £3.49 above the Antalya's 30mm turf and £2.64 below the Ark Mat's 35mm. That middle position is the interesting one: the Bodrum charges less on every square metre than a roll with 5mm less pile, so the deepest option is not the dearest one.

Depth is what the money buys. At 40mm the fibres cover the backing from a low angle, so paving, concrete or a tired balcony floor disappears underneath it, and the mixed green tones do the rest at a distance. The same 6 m² that costs £59.94 here falls to £39 in the Antalya's 30mm, so depth is a small-area luxury rather than a whole-garden one.

What comes in the box and how does it go down?

One order is a single square, 1 m by 1 m, the same piece Tuda Grass Direct marks as 3ft3 x 3ft3. It weighs 1.63 kg, so you can carry four of them in from the car without a trolley, and each one unrolls flat on its own with nothing to assemble.

No sand infill goes underneath it, which saves the 25 kg bags and the barrow work that softer piles sometimes need, and the pile is UV stabilised for outdoor use. Tuda Grass Direct sells an 8in x 8in sample piece separately, and that is the sensible way to check the colour against your own paving before ordering the squares you need. Plan for two small extras: leaves and debris need clearing off the surface, and where a dog uses the patch, pet urine wants an artificial grass cleaner rather than household soap.

Where does the Tuda Grass Direct Bodrum 40mm fall short?

A square metre per order is the real limit. A 3 m by 2 m lawn takes six pieces and five joins, and those joins, trimmed and butted edge to edge, are what decide whether the finished surface looks laid or assembled. On a long narrow border the 1 m width also leaves offcuts, because nothing here is sold as a 2 m or 4 m wide length.

Then there is the price per square metre: £9.99 against £6.50 for the Antalya's 30mm, a gap of £3.49 on every square metre you lay. Over 6 m² that difference is £20.94, which is money spent on depth rather than area. If the turf is going where nobody walks or looks closely, a thinner, cheaper roll does the same job for less.

How does the Tuda Grass Direct Bodrum 40mm compare with the Antalya and the Ark Mat?

Against the Antalya's 30mm turf at £39 for 6 m², six Bodrum squares come to £59.94, so the Antalya is £20.94 less for the same area and 10mm less pile. Buy the Antalya for a lawn you look at across the garden, and the Bodrum for the square metre you stand on.

Against the Ark Mat's 35mm turf at £18.95 for 1.5 m², a square and a half of Bodrum costs £14.99, which is £3.96 less for 5mm more pile. What the extra £3.96 buys is one piece instead of two, with no join down the middle of a 1 m by 1.5 m balcony, so choose the Ark Mat when a single uninterrupted piece matters more than the depth.
