The Fire-Maple FMS-X2 is a personal cooking system: a gas burner, a pot and a pot support that fold into one another, listed at £69.95 with 4.6 out of 5 from 1,192 ratings. It sits at number four in this guide. Its listing is the counter-example to the rest of it — where the Milestone 18949 simply claims 3000 W and stops there, the Fire-Maple pairs its 2200 W with a boil time: 0.5 L of water in 100 seconds, which it says is up to 30% faster than a traditional backpacking stove. A wattage on its own is a claim; a boil time is something a buyer can hold it to.
Two things in the same listing do not fit together. The second bullet reads "The package includes fuel canister stand, stove, 230g gas canister(not included)" — a sentence that hands you a canister and takes it away again — while the specs list Number of Items as 1. And the first bullet describes "high quality stainless steel and aluminum", where the Material field says only Aluminium. Every figure on this page comes from the Amazon listing, not from a test of our own.

The best feature is how all the parts fit inside the included pot and the pan handle folds over and secures down to keep everything together and not rattling about. However it took me a few mins to work out exactly how to stack everything such that it does fit in the pot - for anyone struggling with this, the photo 4 on the amazon listing shows the order, and don't be afraid to press down quite hard as the gas (if using 230g, 100g fits regardless) needs to "pop" into the notches on the stove and then the whole assembly is short enough to fit into the pan so the lid can go on.One downside is that "un-popping" the gas from the notches on the stove when it has been stored is unreasonably difficult at least on my model - I can imagine this might be frustrating with cold and/or wet hands at the top of a hill. However this may just be specific to my brand of gas. Going from stored to cooking takes just a few seconds and everything feels high quality and premium.The feet that clip onto the gas canister and the fact that the pot secures to the stove means that you end up with a very stable cooking system. The heat exchangers around the bottom of the pot also mean that vastly more heat ends up in the pot so your water is boiling much quicker and with less gas used. The included piezoelectric sparker works well but I'd always carry a lighter in addition just in case.The system is primarily designed for boiling water, so for teas/coffees, and dehydrated/vacuum packed camping meals. The stove comes with a regular pot holder so you can put a frying pan on it and do some regular cooking but the main use is boiling water.Obviously for what it is, a jetboil type system, the size is very good. But it does take up quite a lot of room in a bag compared to the most compact options.”
