Lay-Z-Spa Miami

Is the Lay-Z-Spa Miami worth buying?

The Lay-Z-Spa Miami is worth buying at £351 if you want a four-seat hot tub with the strongest owner record in the category, since 1,243 buyers rate it 4.5. That record is what you are paying for: the tub itself is a 180 cm circle with 120 AirJets, a pump that heats and filters at the same time as the bubbles run, and a two-year manufacturer warranty.

It suits a couple, or a family that will mostly soak two or three at a time. Anyone who regularly fills a tub with five or six adults should look at a bigger shell instead, because four is the hard limit here.

What does the Lay-Z-Spa Miami give each bather?

The Lay-Z-Spa Miami spreads 120 AirJets over four seats, which is 30 jets a bather. That is the highest figure of any tub in this category: the six-seat Barcelona works out at 21.7 jets a bather and the six-seat Dellonda at 23.3, so a smaller tub with fewer jets still delivers more bubbles per person than either of them.

Divide the price the same way and each of the four seats costs £87.75. A six-seat tub spreads its cost wider, so if value per bather is the measure that matters, a larger shell wins on maths and loses on the density of jets.

What comes in the box with the Lay-Z-Spa Miami?

The Lay-Z-Spa Miami arrives as one spa, one cover, one pump, one filter cartridge (VI), one ChemConnect dispenser and one repair patch. It measures 180 cm across and 66 cm high, which needs a clear square of about 2.2 m once you leave room to walk around it, and it weighs 32.3 kg before any water goes in.

Assembly is required, and the pump runs on a 230 V socket, so the spot you choose has to be within reach of an outdoor-safe supply. The wall is a seamless three-layer TriTech build in black, with an insulating lid and top cover that hold the heat between soaks, and Freeze Shield keeps the water from freezing on cold nights. A spare filter cartridge and a ground sheet are sensible first buys, because one cartridge is what you get.

Where does the Lay-Z-Spa Miami fall short?

Four seats is the ceiling, and it is a real one. Two adults and two children fit comfortably, five adults do not, and anyone planning to host needs a six-seat shell such as the Barcelona.

The tub weighs 32.3 kg empty, but filled it stays where it is: choose the spot, level the ground and fill it there, not somewhere convenient for the hosepipe. It also needs assembling before the first fill, which is a two-person job on a warm afternoon rather than a ten-minute one.

How does the Lay-Z-Spa Miami compare with the Barcelona and the Dellonda?

The Lay-Z-Spa Miami costs £351 against £399.99 for the six-seat Barcelona, a difference of £48.99. The Barcelona holds 910 litres, runs 130 jets and gives 21.7 jets a bather, so it buys two extra seats and a much larger body of water, at the cost of a thinner bubble massage per person.

The Dellonda is £434.98, which is £83.98 more than the Miami, and it holds 1,200 litres with 140 jets over six seats, or 23.3 jets a bather. Pick the Miami if the tub is for two to four people and you want the model with the most owner feedback behind it; pick the Dellonda if six adults will be in the water and 1,200 litres is what that needs.
