The Le Creuset Signature 24 cm round casserole is the dish that finishes first in our guide to cast iron casserole dishes. It is a 4.2-litre enamelled cast iron pot with a cast iron lid, in Deep Teal, listed at £201.00 and rated 4.8 from 10,354 ratings — a histogram that puts 91 per cent of them at five stars. It is also the product in the guide whose own listing disagrees with itself the most.

The bullet points say the enamel "withstands any temperature"; the specification field on the same page gives a temperature rating of 500 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 260 °C. The bullet lists dimensions of 32.5 x 25.2 x 16.6 cm, while the spec fields give "32.5W x 25.2H centimetres" and, separately, "32.5 x 32.5 x 25.2 centimetres". The weight is the one figure that holds up — 4.305 kg in the bullet against 4.31 kg in the spec — and it makes the article's wider point for us: this 4.2-litre Le Creuset is lighter than a 2.3-litre dish elsewhere in the guide. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing and its customer reviews; we have not tested the pot ourselves.

What buyers actually say

“I have been using this over the past week and already love it. I have been cooking every meal in it as its so versatile. It can be used on the hob and then transferred to the oven and you can even put it in the fridge if you have leftovers. The enamel resists food sticking to it and I found it easy to clean after use with a none abrasive sponge. The cast iron absorbs the heat and distributes it evenly, so you don't end up with hot spots.I went for the 28cm and I'd say it was the ideal size for a family of 3-4. Its also the perfect size for a standard 60cm wide oven/fridge, with enough room either side to hold the handles. There is loads of room inside for sweating down onions etc and the tall sides stop any bits escaping when stirring. The quality is outstanding as is to be expected for this price point. The lid is a perfect fit and holds in the steam well. Its also a lot lighter than cheaper cast iron casserole dishes, while still being thick enough to retain heat. Overall the fit and finish is superb and it also looks fantastic in the matte black I chose.Overall I am over the moon with this casserole dish and can see myself using this for many years. Its expensive, but I feel its worth it for the quality of the product and the lifetime warranty.”
