Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.

The Amazon Basics bed is the smallest option in this ranking and the listing describes a 61 by 50.8 by 17.8 centimetre washable puppy sofa with a listed heating feature and a 1.03 kilogram weight, under model number DF2018204S, for a maximum recommended weight of 25 pounds.

A self-warming bed reflects the animal's own heat back rather than drawing power, which is why no plug is listed; the heating entry is about the lining rather than an element. At this size it suits a small dog or a cat. At the time of collection it carried 8,827 ratings at 4.5 stars. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.

What buyers actually say

“I bought this bed because I was worried about my elderly cat now that we are trying not to turn the heating on during the winter. He was wandering the house looking for a warm, draft-free place to sleep, and his joints were visibly stiffer. This bed seems to have done the trick - it was out of the box for all of six minutes before he curled up inside and he hasn't moved since! He didn't even bother with his usual trick of sitting in the cardboard box first! It is made from a soft, fluffy material (similar to sherpa fleece) which looks like it should be plenty cosy, and the sides are high enough to block drafts. The bottom part is nicely padded and looks comfortable. I have mine sat atop another cushion for warmth (we have uncovered floorboards with a cellar beneath, and the floor gets chilly! but on carpet I imagine it would be just fine). It rustles slightly (very quietly) when moved, but this bothers neither me nor my cat, so isn't a problem. It is a large bed, which could easily fit two cats, but then again it is technically made for dogs!It looks well made, with no loose threads or obvious defects. It smelled quite strongly of chemicals when it first came out of the packaging, but that dissipated quite quickly, and didn't seem to bother my cat at all. The label says "do not wash", but it also says it is made from "100% polyester", which usually survives the washing machine just fine, so I will be washing it anyway, on a cool temperature. I suspect it will be fine. I wouldn't risk the tumble drier though - that might spoil the self-warming layer!Overall, I (and my cat!) am very pleased with this product, and for £25, I will be buying others for around the house!”

“Bought this 61cm bed for my chihuahua and she is happy with it. Comfortable wool lining and plenty of padding for her to cuddle up in.Well worth the money. The 61cm bed will fit in my washing machine but the larger beds will have to be done in a larger machine.Overall 10/10Update after 3 monthsBed was so good i bought another one and after 3 months and being washed weekly the bed is still holding up well looking new dog loves it as i cant get her out of it .The medium 76cm bed just fitted in my 9kg washing machine. As for people saying the bed is not machine washable i have washed it weekly for 3 months and its still held its shape and is as comfy as it was when new so i can confirm its machine washable.”
