The Fire-Maple FMS-X3 is a pot-system camping stove: an anodised aluminium 0.8 litre pot with a burner, a folding canister stand, a pot stand and a carry bag, all of which nest inside the pot. It sells for £53.49, carries a 4.7 out of 5 rating, and sits at number 8 in this guide — although the listing itself puts it 2nd in Backpacking Stoves.

The speed claim is a big one: 0.5 litres boiled in 100 seconds, with heat efficiency "30% higher compared to other brands". No brand is named for that 30%, so there is nothing to measure it against. The kit list also rewards a second read — the same bullet that says a 110g gas cartridge fits inside the pot ends with GAS CANISTER NOT INCLUDED. And the rating header says 155 reviews while the star breakdown beside it adds up to 100: 83 five-star, 12 four-star, 2 three-star, 2 two-star and 1 one-star. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing, not from testing we carried out ourselves.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

“Incredibly high quality and a must have if you intend to rehydrate foods for the majority of your trip. It boils 0.8L of water in about 3 minutes (keep in mind having the lid on makes it a lot more efficient). The igniter works extremely well, in wind it may take a few tries and I find that it is important to turn off the gas if you can't ignite it in extreme conditions (once it does light the flame will spill everywhere, but this is to be expected of any gas burner). It's ultra compact and relatively lightweight for its purpose, I'd say it was by far the greatest value for money out of anything I bought for my wild camping trip.”

“As a less expensive option for a Jetboil unit, I chose the Fire Maple. I wasn't disappointed! Fitted a 260g fuel canister and boiled 800ml of water in less than 2 minutes. Purchased this to put in my vehicle alongside my emergency gear rucksack just in case of adverse weather conditions and being stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I have to confidence to keep warm and fed for the duration!”
