Rank #3 in Best Log Splitter 2026: What the Tonnage Hides
Forest Master FM5D-TC 5 Ton Electric Log Splitter with Guard
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The FM5D-TC is the best-evidenced log splitter in this ranking: 4.6 stars from 386 ratings with 83 per cent five-star, on a 53kg machine with a 2,200W motor and five tonnes of force. It arrives with hydraulic oil already in it and costs £309.95.
It also publishes the one specification almost nobody in this category does: a nine-second cycle time. That is why it takes third rather than lower despite costing £61.99 per tonne of force — with 5 tonnes, the honest limit is soft and green wood.

Questions people ask
What is cycle time and why does it matter?
It is how long the machine takes to push a log through and reset. Nine seconds here, and no other listing on this page publishes the figure at all.
Is five tonnes enough?
The listing sells it for soft and green wood and calls it the fastest small log splitter on the market. Harder woods are what the seven-tonne models are for.
Does it come ready to use?
Yes: the listing says it arrives pre-filled with hydraulic oil, with a 175cm cord.
Is the safety frame included?
It is included and certified, but one buyer chose not to assemble it. The machine runs without it.
How does it compare on price?
At £309.95 for five tonnes it is £61.99 per tonne, against £42.86 on the seven-tonne Hyundai and £18.00 on the hand-operated ten-tonne model.
How many ratings does it have?
386 at the time of collection, averaging 4.6 stars, with 83 per cent five-star and 4 per cent one-star.
