Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.

The DEWALT DCS391 is an 18 V XR circular saw with a 165 mm blade, and it sits at number 2 in this guide at £95.00. It is a bare unit: the listing's own included-components line reads 'DCS391N Premium XR Circular Saw 165mm 18V Bare Unit'. If you already run DEWALT 18 V batteries, that is the point of it — you are buying the saw, not a kit with a battery and charger in the box.

The listing is also a good example of why the numbers on a product page need reading twice. The title gives the wattage as 9 W, printed next to an 18 V battery platform and a 3,700 RPM motor speed. Elsewhere, a specification row states '1 Lithium Ion batteries required', which sits awkwardly beside a product name that says Bare Unit. And one bullet calls 165 mm the blade's 'ultra thin kerf', when 165 mm is the blade diameter given in the same sheet. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing, not from a test of our own.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

“Bought this saw as i've got Dewalt batteries and it was fairly cheap as i thought i'd only need it for one job but have actually ended up using it a lot. It's very ergonomic, the handles make it very comfy and sturdy to hold when making a cut meaning that you can get perfectly straight free hand cuts. It comes with a blade but for any cuts that you want to be as neat as possible i'd get one with more teeth for a finer cut. The only thing i can mark it down on is the lock screw for the bevel cut adjustment, it was incredibly stiff and i thought it had been cross threaded until i removed it and saw the loctite. A quick run over with a thread chaser sorted that and now i can use the thumbscrew without resorting to pliers.”

“The circular saw was on discount (£100) which was excellent value, usual Dewalt quality and a joy to use, didn't realise the unit came with a saw blade until opening the box which made it even better value!”

Questions people ask

Does the DEWALT DCS391 come with a battery and charger?

The product name and the included-components line both say 'Bare Unit' — the box holds the saw itself. The specification row reading '1 Lithium Ion batteries required' describes what the tool needs to run, not what arrives with it.

What does the 9 W figure in the title mean?

The wattage field on the listing reads 9 watts. The same sheet lists the DCS391 as 18 volts with a speed of 3,700 RPM, so the 9 W figure sits oddly beside those two numbers.

What can the DEWALT DCS391 cut?

The listing gives a maximum cut depth of 55 mm with the 165 mm, 24-tooth blade, and names wood and metal as the recommended surfaces.

Does it arrive with a blade fitted?

The included-components line lists only the bare unit, and one reviewer says they did not realise a blade was in the box until they opened it.

How are the bevel and depth adjusted?

The listing says the bevel angle and the depth of cut are keyless, adjusted against an easy-to-read scale, with a lock-off switch and an electronic motor brake for control.

What do owners think of it?

The DCS391 holds 4.8 out of 5 across 1,248 ratings, and 84 of the 100 ratings shown in the chart are five stars.
