Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.

At number 7 in our guide to hair straighteners, the Remington Pro Straight S5525 is a £31.99 corded straightener with wide 110mm floating plates and a claimed 230°C top temperature. The listing's bullet points and specification table both give that 230°C figure, but a customer review on the same page states the tool reaches 250°C. That is the kind of mismatch this guide looks for: the listed number and the user's number do not agree.

The Remington also carries a 4.6-star rating from 5,816 reviews, with 81% of those being 5-star. It comes with a 3-year guarantee, a heat-proof pouch and a 15-second heat-up time. Everything here is taken from the Amazon listing, not from our own testing.

What buyers actually say

“I bought these Remington hair straighteners in September 2016 and I'm still using them today. They've been with me through all my good and bad hair decisions 😂I have 4C hair and when I use them properly with freshly washed hair, heat protector and the right products, my hair comes out silky and straight. They go up to 250°C but you really don't need to have them that high. One of my favourite features is being able to lock the temperature, so you don't accidentally turn it up while using them. They also come with a little heat mat which is really handy.I've recommended these to family and friends and have actually convinced quite a few people to switch to Remington. I'm definitely a Remington girl through and through!Nearly 10 years later, they've been dropped loads of times, the wire has been wrapped around them countless times and they're still in great condition. I've never even had to change the fuse. For the price, they're honestly amazing. Still going strong after nearly 10 years!”
