The Greened House ECS580 is the number 3 pick in this guide to heated towel rails: a straight, chrome, electric rail listed at £89.99 with 4.4 out of 5 from 148 Amazon ratings. The name on the listing reads "500w x 800h", and the first thing worth untangling is that the 500 is a width in millimetres, not a power figure. The element the listing says it supplies is 250 watts — stated in the fourth bullet, where the rail is described as coming pre-filled with "250 watt heating element, adjustable wall brackets, wall fixing screws and wall plugs". So the number that looks like a power rating in the product name is a size, and the actual power figure turns up further down the text.

There is also no heat output figure anywhere in the listing — not in watts, not in BTU. The bullet headed HIGH HEAT OUTPUT is cut off mid-sentence at "Heat Outp" and argues from the number of cross bars instead. That matters in a guide where one listing quotes 2166 BTU and another gives a 322-863 BTU range for the same rail depending on the Delta T: here there is nothing to put next to those numbers. The dimension fields are no tidier, since Item Dimensions L x W x H reads "80L x 50W x 80H centimetres", making length and height the same figure, against an Item Length of 80 centimetres listed separately in the same block. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing for the Greened House ECS580 and from the buyer reviews on it. We have not tested this towel rail ourselves.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

Verified purchase

“Well made, good looking towel rail. The 250watt element provides sufficient warmth for my small bathroom. What is frustrating is the absence of installation instructions inside the box. However if you search the website these are available, but strangely there doesn't appear to be mention of a recommended fuse rating. I opted for a 3amp fuse as recommended on a pat testing website. I was replacing an existing heated rail which made the job relatively straightforward. Anyone without the necessary knowledge and experience should of course always use a professional installer.”

Questions people ask

What size is the Greened House ECS580?

The product name gives it as 500 x 800, Item Length is listed as 80 centimetres, and Item Dimensions L x W x H is given as 80L x 50W x 80H centimetres — length and height come out as the same figure in that field.

What element comes with it?

The listing says the Greened House ECS580 arrives pre-filled and is supplied with a 250 watt heating element, adjustable wall brackets, wall fixing screws and wall plugs.

Does the 500w in the title mean 500 watts?

No. The element the listing supplies is given as 250 watts, so the 500 in "500w x 800h" is the width in millimetres.

How much heat does it put out?

The listing gives no heat output figure in watts or BTU. The bullet headed HIGH HEAT OUTPUT is cut off after "Heat Outp" and points to the number of cross bars rather than a measured output.

What is the warranty on the Greened House ECS580?

As stated by the manufacturer: frame 5 years, element 2 years, thermostat 2 years.

Is it straightforward to install?

Greened House says it comes pre-filled with the fixings included. One buyer reports that the instructions in the box are for the water version and describes removing a drain plug, inserting the electrical element and hanging the rail.
