Rank #7 in Best Cast Iron Casserole Dish 2026: 9 Ranked, and Where the Specs Contradict
Argon Tableware 2.3 L Shallow Cast Iron Casserole, Midnight Blue
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Argon Tableware 2.3L Shallow Cast Iron Casserole Dish is the shallow, wide pan at number seven in this guide. At £34.99 it has 4.5 out of 5 from 506 ratings, an enamelled cast iron body, a cast iron self-basting lid and a listed capacity of 2.3 litres, given in the title as 2.43QT. It is sold as suitable for the hob and the oven, and the bullet points name induction, ceramic, gas and electric cooktops.
The number that stands out on this listing is the weight: 5.38 kg. The same guide lists a 4.2 litre Le Creuset at 4.31 kg, so the smaller dish here is the heavier one by more than a kilogram — a reminder that capacity tells you very little about how a cast iron pan will feel when you lift it. The measurements do not settle down either: the diameter field says 30 cm, while the dimensions line gives the width as 39 cm, and the height appears as 4.5 cm in one field and 10 cm in another. On care, the listing contradicts itself outright — 'Hand Wash Only' in the care instructions and 'Yes' in the dishwasher-safe field. On capacity it is at least consistent: 2.3 litres does work out at 2.43 quarts. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing as published, not from any test of ours.
How those 506 ratings break down

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“I have returned this not as a fault, but it was too big for me. I actually thought it was a smaller one when I ordered it. I wish they would put measurements in inches.”
Verified purchase“Lovely pan, solid and good quality. It is shallow rather than deep pot size but description is accurate”

Questions people ask
Can the Argon Tableware 2.3L dish go in the dishwasher?
The listing says two different things. The field labelled 'Product Care Instructions' reads 'Hand Wash Only', while the field labelled 'Is the item dishwasher safe?' reads 'Yes'. Nothing in the Argon Tableware text on the page resolves which one applies.
How heavy is it?
The listing gives the item weight as 5.38 kg, for a dish with a listed capacity of 2.3 litres.
What is the capacity in quarts?
The title gives 2.43QT, which matches the 2.3 litres in the specification — the two figures agree here.
Will it work on an induction hob?
Yes, according to the bullet points, which list induction, ceramic, gas and electric cooktops and describe the dish as suitable for both stovetop and oven use.
Does it come with a lid?
Yes. The listing says 'With Lid: Yes' and gives the lid material as cast iron, with internal self-basting bumps designed to catch and redistribute steam.
What are the dimensions?
They are not consistent across the listing. The diameter field says 30 cm, the dimensions line gives 10 x 39 x 31 cm, and the width and height line gives 39W x 4.5H centimetres.
