Is the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob worth buying?

The SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob is worth buying at £99.99 if you want a steel top, sealed burners and a cut-out of 55.2 x 47 cm that fits the hole most 60 cm kitchens already have. It puts 7,060 W over four rings, arrives ready for natural gas with the propane nozzles in the box, and 112 buyers rate it 4.3.

It is not the hob for someone counting the cost of every kilowatt. The power here costs £14.16 a kilowatt, and the SIA AMZGHG602BL gives 7,500 W for £94.99, so 440 W more for £5.00 less. Choose the SNDOAS when the sealed rings and the easy-clean steel matter more than the last few hundred watts.

How much power does the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob give?

SNDOAS splits 7,060 W across rings of 2,400 W, 1,880 W, 1,880 W and 900 W, which averages 1,765 W a burner. Two rings clear 1,800 W for everyday pans and the largest one takes a casserole or a big frying pan, while the smallest ring is the one for melting butter and holding a slow sauce.

Divide the £99.99 by the 7.06 kW and each kilowatt costs £14.16. That sits under the £16.00 of the SIA GHG612BL but above the £12.67 of the SIA AMZGHG602BL, so the steel finish and the sealed burners are what the extra few pounds buy. It also leaves more than £20.00 in your pocket against the £119.99 SIA GHG612BL.

Will the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob fit my worktop?

The hob measures 58 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 9 cm high, and it drops into a cut-out of 55.2 x 47 cm, which is the opening left by most 60 cm models. SNDOAS also allows a freestanding setup, useful on a worktop you would rather not cut.

Inside the box you get the hob, the mounting materials, four LPG nozzles, four natural gas nozzles and an instruction manual, so the conversion does not need a separate purchase. It weighs 8.38 kg, light enough for one person to lower in, and the ignition runs on 220 to 240V at 50Hz, so a socket has to sit within reach. A Gas Safe registered engineer makes the gas connection.

Where does the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob fall short?

At 1,765 W a burner it sits at the bottom of the four-burner hobs here, against 1,875 W a ring on the SIA models and 2,125 W on the Hisense GM663BHF. The 900 W ring will not take a large pan, so two of the four rings do most of the heavy work on a busy evening.

The pan supports are one-piece enamelled steel rather than cast iron, so they scratch sooner than iron grids and move about under a heavy casserole. Only 112 buyers have rated it, against 413 behind the SIA GHG612BL, so fewer owners have lived with it long enough to report on the wear.

How does the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob compare with the SIA AMZGHG602BL?

The SIA AMZGHG602BL costs £94.99, so £5.00 less, and gives 7,500 W, which is 1,875 W for each of its four rings. It also carries cast iron pan supports where the SNDOAS hob uses enamelled ones, and 187 buyers rate it 4.3. Take the SIA if you want the iron grids and 110 W more per ring for less money.

Against the other steel option, the Hisense GM642XHS at £99.00 is £0.99 cheaper and brings cast iron pan stands, one-hand ignition and a drip tray, with 124 buyers at 4.4. The SNDOAS stays ahead on its sealed burners and the LPG nozzle kit in the box, so it is the better buy if cleaning and a bottled gas supply matter more than the stands.

Questions people ask

What are the cut-out dimensions for the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob?

It needs an opening of 55.2 x 47 cm, inside a hob that is 58 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 9 cm high. Measure the existing hole before you order, because a 60 cm hob does not mean a universal cut-out.

Can the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob run on bottled gas?

Yes. It comes set for natural gas and four LPG nozzles travel in the box, so a Gas Safe registered engineer can switch it to propane without you buying a kit. The swap takes minutes once the hob is lifted out of the worktop.

How heavy is the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob?

It weighs 8.38 kg, light enough for one person to lower into the cut-out. The 9 cm steel body and the sealed burners are most of that weight, so a second pair of hands is only really needed when lining up the mounting brackets.

What is in the box with the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob?

You get the hob, the mounting materials, four LPG nozzles, four natural gas nozzles and an instruction manual. Nothing else is required for the gas side, and the ignition draws 220 to 240V from a socket within reach.

How does the flame failure device work on the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob?

Each of the four burners carries a thermocouple that shuts the gas off the moment the flame goes out, so a pan boiling over does not leave gas running. The hob also holds CE certification for that safety circuit.

Are the burners on the SNDOAS Stainless Steel Gas Hob sealed?

Yes, the burners are sealed, so a spill sits on the stainless steel top instead of dropping into the body of the hob. That keeps the wipe-down short, and the one-piece pan supports lift off whole for a wash in the sink.
