The PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door is the number 5 entry in this guide. It is listed at £81.98 with a rating of 4.2 from 2,865 reviews, and the size field says L. The bullet underneath says the door suits pets weighing up to 45 kg, with a flap opening of 25.7 x 41.3 cm, and asks you to measure your door and your pet before installing. In the rating breakdown supplied with the listing, 82 of a 100-rating sample sit at four or five stars, and ten sit at one or two.

The catalogue fields around that 45 kg claim are loose. Pet type is given as Cat, even though the size bullet addresses dogs; colour is given as Large, which is a size and not a colour; item type name is "Boa". The flap opening and the cut-out area are both listed as 25.7 x 41.3 cm — the same measurement for the flap and for the hole it goes into. PetSafe also claims the triple flap design is 3-1/2 times more energy efficient than a standard single-flap pet door, with no test figures attached to that number. At £81.98 it costs about £22 more than the £59.99 door elsewhere in this guide that claims the same 45 kg. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing; we have not tested the door ourselves.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

Verified purchase

“Door is all plastic, for £65 I was expecting something a bit more sturdy but.... On fitting One of the plastic bolts snapped which was really annoying. But I called PetSafe the following day and they were very apologetic, promised to send new bolts asap (I do feel this is maybe a standard problem because they were very accommodating and didn't question my problem). I'm currently awaiting them to arrive via DPD. So as long as they come I will be a happy customer.”

Questions people ask

What size pet does the PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door, Large, suit?

The listing says pets weighing up to 45 kg, with a flap opening of 25.7 x 41.3 cm, and tells you to measure your door and your pet before installing.

Is this door only for cats?

The spec table gives the pet type as Cat, but the size bullet says it suits "your dog or other pets weighing up to 45kg" and the size field is L. The listing contradicts itself on this point.

How thick a door can the PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door fit?

The listing gives a minimum compatible thickness of 37.5 mm and a maximum of 57 mm.

How much does the PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door cost?

The listed price is £81.98. One review refers to paying £65 for it, so the price on this listing has moved.

Is the flap opening the same as the cut-out?

Both are listed as 25.7 x 41.3 cm — the same figure for the flap and for the cut-out, which is unusual because the cut-out has to be larger than the flap.

What is the energy efficiency claim?

PetSafe says the triple flap design is 3-1/2 times more energy efficient than standard single-flap pet doors. The listing gives no test data for that figure.
