The PetSafe Staywell Weather Proof aluminium pet door is the third entry in this guide, at £57.62 with 4.4 out of 5 from 2,367 ratings. It is a single-flap door in a solid aluminium frame with reinforced corners, a flexible tinted flap, magnetic closure and pile weather stripping, and the listing says it suits homes with multiple pets or heavy use.

The listing's own numbers are worth reading side by side. Size is "L" and Dog Breed Size is "Large", and the Weight Capacity Maximum field says 100 Kilograms — a figure the rest of the page never explains, because no flap opening measurement is given anywhere in the data. The thickness figures, by contrast, do agree with each other: Maximum Compatible Thickness is 2 Inches and the bullet says the door fits doors up to 51mm thick, with a minimum of 0.38 Inches. The weather claim is the one that does not survive the review page: the bullet promises a "secure, weather-resistant seal", while buyers describe the flap blowing open and letting in draughts. Everything here is taken from the Amazon listing and from buyer reviews — we have not tested this door ourselves.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

Verified purchase

“I have had some of these flaps installed for years now. The actual soft flap part does need changing every now and then, they get out of shape or, eeps, have also ended chewed.. but the frame is robust and lasts. All our dogs use it, from the tiny Jack Russel terriers to my massive 46 kilo Giant Schnauzer.Obviously this flap will not keep the wind out, or rain or snow, if it blows from that direction. We have ours installed facing away from our predominant wind direction, one leading into the patio and one into a backroom, with each having a proper door still to our living quarters, to keep warmth in during the winter. But for our set-up it works brilliantly.”

Questions people ask

What size dog is this door for?

The Size field says L and the Dog Breed Size field says Large, while the Weight Capacity Maximum field states 100 Kilograms. The listing gives no flap opening dimensions, so the weight figure is the only capacity guide on the page.

How thick a door will it fit?

The bullet says it fits doors up to 51mm thick and lists wood, brick, PVC, uPVC and metal. The Maximum Compatible Thickness field says 2 Inches and the Minimum Compatible Thickness field says 0.38 Inches.

Does it keep the weather out?

The listing describes a weather-resistant design with a tinted flap, magnetic closure and pile weather stripping. One buyer reports the flap blows open in windy weather and is very draughty, and another says it will not keep out wind, rain or snow blowing from that direction.

What comes in the box?

The Included Components field says "Contents: 1 item" and Unit Count says 1.0 count, while the installation bullet says all necessary components are included for a DIY fit.

What is the price and how is it rated?

£57.62, rated 4.4 out of 5 from 2,367 ratings.

Can cats use it as well as dogs?

The Pet Type field says Cat, Dog and the Target Audience field says Dog^Cat, so the listing covers both.
