Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Winix 5500-2 leads this ranking on both specification and evidence. The listing quotes a CADR of 390 cubic metres per hour with four-stage filtration and PlasmaWave, a HEPA filter class, a 0.1 micrometre particle retention size, a 27.8 decibel noise figure and 70 watts of power draw, in a 6.7 kilogram body measuring 20.8 by 38.1 by 59.9 centimetres, with remote control.
CADR is the number worth comparing between purifiers, because it describes how much clean air the machine actually moves rather than how large a room the box claims. This one is among the highest here and, at 70 watts, also among the thirstier machines. At the time of collection it carried 27,504 ratings at 4.6 stars. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.
How those 27,504 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.6 stars.
