VASAGLE Folding Dining Table

Is the VASAGLE Folding Dining Table worth buying?

Yes, the VASAGLE Folding Dining Table is worth buying at £66.99 if you live in a flat or a small house where the table has to give the floor back between meals. It seats two to four people, folds down to a console when the meal is over, and 1,682 owners rate it 4.7.

It is the best pick on this page for a room that doubles as a living room or a home office, because nothing else here folds to 84.5 cm and still takes 100 kg on the main top. If your dining room has a permanent 140 cm wall, the £59.99 VASAGLE Golden Oak Kitchen Table gives you 10,500 cm2 for £7 less and never needs folding.

How much tabletop does the VASAGLE Folding Dining Table give per pound?

Open, the top measures 120 x 78 cm, which is 9,360 cm2. At £66.99 that works out at 140 cm2 of tabletop for every pound you spend, which is nearly three times what the £119.90 KROKWOOD Tomas returns and the middle of the range across the ten tables on this page.

In use that 9,360 cm2 is four place settings with a dish in the middle, or two people with a laptop each. The drop leaf holds 50 kg on its own and the fixed section takes 100 kg, so the leaf is for plates and elbows rather than a person sitting on the end.

What comes in the box and how is it to live with?

The box holds the table, the folding brackets, the numbered parts and the instructions, and it arrives in one pack. Assembly takes about 15 minutes, and at 20.9 kg the finished table is heavy enough that one person should build it where it will stand.

The top is 2.54 cm of engineered wood on a powder-coated steel frame with straight legs, and the adjustable feet keep it level on a floor that slopes. You need to buy chairs separately, because the table is sold without them, and it stands 75 cm from the floor for standard-height chairs.

Where does the VASAGLE Folding Dining Table fall short?

The surface is not stain resistant, so red wine and turmeric need wiping the same evening with a damp cloth rather than left to sit. The drop leaf is the second limit: it holds 50 kg against 100 kg on the main top, and folding brackets are parts that wear, so keep the joint dry before you fold it away.

At 20.9 kg it is heavier than the £59.99 VASAGLE Golden Oak Kitchen Table at 18.2 kg, and it folds to 84.5 cm, which still needs that much clear floor against a wall. If your room can keep a table out permanently, the folding mechanism is £66.99 spent on something you never use.

How does the VASAGLE Folding Dining Table compare with the alternatives?

Against the VASAGLE Golden Oak Kitchen Table at £59.99, this table costs £7 more, gives 9,360 cm2 instead of 10,500 cm2, and seats four instead of four to six. The Golden Oak wins on surface and price if you have a 140 cm wall; the folding table wins in any room that cannot spare one.

Against the Harbour Housewares Folding Trestle Table 180cm at £32.99, this table costs £34 more and gives 9,360 cm2 against 13,320 cm2. The trestle seats six to eight and folds to 90 cm, but it stands 73.5 cm high and looks like a trestle in a dining room; buy it for parties, and buy the VASAGLE for every day.
