Rank #1 in Best Screwdriver Sets 2026: 10 Ranked, and Why the Count Lies
Amazon Basics 73-Piece Magnetic Ratchet Screwdriver Set
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Amazon Basics Magnetic Ratchet Screwdriver Set takes the top slot in this guide on price per advertised piece: £11.99 for a set the listing calls 73-Count, which comes out at roughly 16p a piece, against £34.99 for the 42-piece set lower down. It carries a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 12,571 ratings, and the listing names the model as DS-AMZ035 in black, red and silver, weighing 626 g in its case.
The 73 is where the listing gets loose. Nothing in the five bullets or the specification table breaks that number down into bits, sockets, driver and case — the storage bullet only says the case has a dedicated space for "the driver, sockets and bits", so the advertised figure counts more than the bits themselves, and Included Components says just "Screwdriver Bits". The same listing also reads two ways at once: Unit Count says 73.0 count while Number of Items says 1. What is not in doubt is the arithmetic on price: at £11.99 the set undercuts the 42-piece set at £34.99 per piece. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing for this set, not from our own testing.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“If there was a 10 star option this would get them. At £8.39 at this low price it is insane value.Mine arrived today 27/08/26...First impressions are the case is substantial and well made....It looks like it will take a few knocks and will last. The 'driver' itself is inspired...the 'shaft' having 4 length adjustments through groves in the shaft and a sprung collar(ball bearing inside the collar) to lock it into place. That is innovation I have not seen in all my decades on this earth.....more than I care to remember. The driver end swivels making use of it even more user friendly. No more driver end rubbing the palm of your hand skin away. The 'bits' set is insane....73 pieces ranging from drivers so small I can't identify them to star drives, hex heads, pozi drives, slot screwdrivers and sockets ranging from 4mm to 13mm..and of course the ubiquitous PZ2 driver everyone should have. Are the 'bits' any good...are they made of decent metal or 'cheese'? Time will tell but even if they are not made of super hard steel I'm sure they will work fine. If they don't and they chew up this is still a decent 'driver' which takes standard size screwdriver interchangeable bits.So can I recommend it? Absolutely...at this price it is a 'steal'.....Oh and I forgot to mention earlier....It's magnetic so holds your 'magnetic' material screws/nuts etc in place while 'driving/screwing'. Bonus. My only negative comment is that the hex/collar that accepts the 'shaft' is specific to the dimension of the 'shaft'. It does not accept the 'bits' so you have to use the shaft/bits holder. I think that if it had been the same dimension as the bits it would have made this already amazing 'driver' design into an 'awesome' one.”
Verified purchase“It's really good quality and well built. The bits fit securely even in a drill, and it comes with a wide variety of different tips, making it very versatile. The only downside is that the very small bits can bend slightly because they're made from such thin metal.”

Questions people ask
How many bits are in the Amazon Basics 73-count set?
The listing gives 73 as the total for the set and describes the case as having space for the driver, sockets and bits, but it never states how many of the 73 are bits and how many are sockets, driver or case.
What does the three-way ratchet actually do?
The driver ratchets clockwise and anti-clockwise and also locks in a fixed position, and the free-spinning base lets you turn the handle while keeping consistent pressure on the fastener.
Can I use the Amazon Basics set on watches and phones?
The listing lists Electronics Item and Watch among its recommended uses and includes non-magnetic precision bits for small electronic instruments, but it also warns not to use precision bits on oversized screws that need large torque.
Why does the listing show 1 item and 73 count at the same time?
Both figures appear in the same specification block: Number of Items reads 1 while Unit Count reads 73.0 count, so the two fields describe the same purchase differently.
What is the Amazon Basics DS-AMZ035 made of?
Heat-treated chrome vanadium steel with a corrosion-resistant finish and a non-slip handle, according to the listing.
What does the set cost and how is it rated?
It is priced at £11.99 and rated 4.6 out of 5 from 12,571 ratings.
