Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.

The Barista Max is the grinder-equipped machine in this ranking, and the listing makes clear how much comes in the box: an integrated coffee grinder, a 2.8 litre water reservoir, a 58mm tamper, a 460ml milk jug, two 58mm single wall filter baskets, a cleaning disc and pin and a removable bean hopper. It is listed as whole-bean input at 15 bar, weighing 7.75 kilograms.

The included 58mm baskets and tamper are the professional-flavoured part, since they match the size used on commercial-style machines rather than the pressurised baskets on cheaper models. It is also the heaviest machine here. At the time of collection it carried 886 ratings at 4.2 stars. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.

“Where do I start? This thing is amazing. It’s relatively compact (about the size you’d expect) and makes seriously good coffee. Of course you need to tweak and dial things in, as you’d expect, but once you have it it’s great. Plenty of little dials like bean amount and grind size etc you can tweak and adjust to get the result you want. It’s relatively loud, and needs semi-regular upkeep like cleaning, cleaning the wand, regular filling of the water tank, changing the filter etc, but it’s not that bad so long as you know what you’re getting yourself into. Plus the trade off for great coffee is worth it.I use it multiple times a day, and have since I got it about 6 years ago. Only broke down once, which was semi expensive to fix (£150 or so, from memory) but again I still think it’s worth it and great value for money.Plus sage is an exceptional brand!I’d suggest you get this one with the grinder built in, as I’ve spoken to friends who have the cheaper one that doesn’t have it and it seems WAY more hassle…!Do yourself a favour and buy the sage knock box too!”

“We bought this through Amazon Resale and honestly couldn't be happier. It was an absolute bargain and has exceeded our expectations. There was a bit of a learning curve at first with the grind settings and milk steaming, but after a few coffees we had it dialled in. Now we're making lattes and flat whites that genuinely taste better than many coffee shops. It's quick to make them once you get used to it.The built-in grinder is great, the machine looks fantastic in the kitchen, and using freshly ground beans makes a huge difference to the flavour. Kitchen also has a lovely coffee scent most of the time now.The steam wand takes some practice but produces lovely frothy milk once you get the technique right. For the price we paid, it's one of the best purchases we've made. If you're willing to spend a few days learning how to use it properly, you'll be rewarded with amazing coffee every day.Highly recommended!”
