Rank #5 in Best 50mm Lens 2026: 10 Ranked, Spec Sheets Cross-Checked
Nikon Z 50mm f/1.4
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Nikon Z 50mm f/1.4 is a full-frame prime for Nikon Z bodies, listed at £399 and sitting fifth in our guide to 50mm lenses. The listing carries a 4.9 average from 51 ratings, and its own specification table contradicts itself: the row marked Maximum Aperture reads '16 f', while Minimum Aperture reads '1.4 f'. A lens named f/1.4 everywhere else has that headline number filed in the row for its smallest aperture, and the widest aperture in the table filed as f/16.
The star counts do not reconcile either. The breakdown shows 14 four-star and 86 five-star ratings, which adds up to 100, against the 51 ratings stated on the same listing. Everything on this page — the price, the rating, the specification, and the aperture figures that put the lens here — is copied from the Amazon listing, not from any test we have run.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“If youre looking for stats and a deep dive then theres plenty of those reviews online, Im a working photographer and while I do like stats etc sometimes, I really go for feel and final image to review lenses. This lens has a maximum aperture of f1.4 and wide open it gives a lovely vintage feeling bokeh. Its not the fastest auto focus but its more than adequate for me and it is accurate. It has a manual focus dial and a custom control dial (I personally use it for aperture). So far this has impressed me, crystal clear images with nice bokeh and good contrast.Using it for video works too, the focus is quiet and accurate so unless youre using the built in mic (I never ever do) then you wont hear it in your videos. This is now my main prime lens for capturing all sorts of subjects with my Z6II. Highly recommended.”
Verified purchase“Lovely lens, takes great pictures and the autofocus is fast. Love the drop off when it's wide open, which is what I bought it for. The one thing I miss is a clicky aperture ring, but no complaints given the price.”
