The SanDisk microSD Express Card 512GB is number six in our guide, and it is the odd one out. Every other card in the list is a UHS-I microSD, while this one carries a PCIe-NVMe interface and a read figure of 880 MB/s — roughly four times the 190–200 MB/s the two cards at the top of our list advertise. It is also the most expensive card we cover at £120.96, and its 2,165 Amazon ratings average 4.6 out of 5.
The catch sits in SanDisk's own bullet points. Its fastest claim — 60 minutes of 4K UHD video at 30fps transferred in less than 70 seconds, and 1,000 10MP RAW photos in 51.7 seconds — comes with the condition "when paired with SANDISK PRO-READER SD Express Dual Card (sold separately)". The headline number is therefore measured through a reader you buy on top of the card, not through the card on its own. The same listing also disagrees with itself on speed class: the spec table states "Secure Digital Association Speed Class: Class 10", while the Item Highlight on the same page claims "U3, C10", and the spec table separately lists a "Media Speed" of 4x.
