The TCL 85C7L is the 85-inch SQD-Mini LED television that takes second place in this guide. The listing gives it 4K resolution, up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness across 1,624 dimming zones, Google TV, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, audio tuned by Bang & Olufsen and a 144 Hz refresh rate, for £1,999.

Its place in the guide comes down to a detail that trips up most of the other listings here: the C7L states the same figure in both refresh rate fields of its specification table - 'Refresh Rate: 144 Hz' and 'Display Refresh Rate in Hertz: 144'. Nothing in this listing puts a bigger number in the title than the panel backs up. The dimension line is in the same scale as the screen it describes, 188.8 cm wide by 112.4 cm high, and the weight is given as 53 kg with the stand and 34.1 kg without it. One number on the page does not reconcile: the listing shows a 4.8 rating from 14 ratings, while the rating breakdown on the same page - 6 three-star, 7 four-star and 87 five-star - adds up to 100. We quote both rather than choose one. Everything below comes from the Amazon listing, not from testing of our own.

What buyers actually say

“It took me a while to get the settings right for the best picture quality, but once I got there, it's an amazing picture. It really excels when you're watching something in 4k, the colours, the brightness of the images, the charity, the blacks are stunning. I previously had an lg oled that got burn in; this TV can't get burn in and in terms of differences in image quality, I think this TV is way ahead. Speed is snappy across apps, no need for firestick now, runs with Google operating system. When TV boots, it's straight into the navigation menu, very fast. I watched one review about the sound, saying it wasn't very good from in built speakers, but to me, to be honest, the Bang and Olufsen sound is the best I've ever heard coming out of a TV. The bass is punchy, I've got Sonos play bar and two play one surround speakers and I very rarely use them now for day to day watching, even without built in sub woofer being on they're still very good. All in all I'm very happy, it's very bright clear, blacks are black, you have to watch something in HDR, or similar at 4k to get the real experience but, picture had blown me away. Expensive TV but latest tech, hopefully it will last for years to come. I think TCL are ahead on this TV, don't be put off if you don't know who TCL are.”

“Very good TV.Going with Mini LED, I had expected a slight haloing effect in dark scenes. It is there, but you do have to really look for it. Not an issue in my opinion.”
