Rank #3 in Best AV Receiver 2026: 10 Ranked, and the Wattage Numbers That Don't Add Up
Denon AVR-S770H 7.2-Channel 8K AV Receiver
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Denon AVR-S770H is a 7.2-channel home cinema receiver at £449.00, third in our AV receiver guide and the cheapest unit in it. Its own listing repeats one number across four fields — the bullet text, Output Power, Output Wattage and Wattage all read 140 watts per channel — and it sits £428.72 below the £877.72 AVR-S970H, whose spec table states 75 W. On the number the marketing leads with, the cheaper receiver wins.
That is not the same as saying the page is consistent. The product is named AVR-S770H, but the Model Number field underneath says AVR-S760H; the bullets promise 8K on three of the six HDMI inputs, while the Format field in the same table reads 4K; and the rating line gives 4.3 from 26 ratings, while the star breakdown on the page adds to 100 — 67 five-star, 13 four-star, 8 three-star, 12 two-star. Everything here is taken from the Amazon listing as it stands; we have not measured the output or tested the HDMI board ourselves.
How those 26 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.3 stars.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“Received only a few days ago as an upgrade to my older Denon amp. After transferring all my speakers and HDMI connections it was time to get the remote going which was very like my last remote, extras included all the Dolby settings which are new to me but the sound mode buttons are fantastic. Taking time to find out all the different settings is important and the online manual is well worth checking out. Connecting my record deck was straight forward and I connected my Denon CD player through the media connection. Sound is nice and clear nd performs well at high volume so well my neighbours tell me. All in all a great bit of kit at a great price!!!!!”
Verified purchase“An excellent bit of kit. I had an earlier version but this has far better surround sound.”
