The Cambridge Audio SX-50 is a pair of passive bookshelf speakers in matte black, listed at £149.00 and sitting at number five in this guide. Cambridge Audio describes a two-way design with a 135mm treated paper cone woofer and a 25mm silk dome tweeter, a rear bass reflex port, bass extension down to 50Hz and an 8 Ohm load that the listing pairs with amplifiers rated between 10 and 100 watts. The Amazon page carries a 4.6 rating from 197 ratings, and the reviewers who wrote the entries below describe using them in small rooms and with inexpensive amplifiers.

The SX-50 earns its place here because of what its own specification table does to itself. One field states "Is Waterproof: True"; another states "Water Resistance Level: Not Water Resistant". One says the control method is touch; another says there is no controller. A "Battery Average Life" of "1 days" is listed for a speaker that runs off an amplifier. And the rating is given as 4.6 from 197 ratings, while the star breakdown further down the same page accounts for only 100 of them. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing, not from testing of our own.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

Verified purchase

“Excellent speakers have paired them with a Fosi BT20A Pro amp and a Cambridge Audio Minx x201 subwoofer. The sound from these including the bass even pre the subwoofer is fantastic, with good clarity, detail and separation of vocals and instruments and their tones where needed. I did get these due to their size for my study but they never made it past the lounge, will certainly be buying this setup again for my study (probably minus the sub as the study is a much smaller room).Would fully recommend the speakers and linked the the Fosi amp it makes for a great sounding system, without breaking the bank.”
