Is the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi worth buying?
Yes, the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi is worth buying at £127.99 if you are putting together an AM5 system around a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 and want the board to still make sense in five years. It carries 14 power stages, four DDR5 slots, a PCIe 5.0 M.2 connector and USB4 support, and 1,244 owners rate it 4.4.
It is the wrong buy if your processor is a Ryzen 5000 and your memory is DDR4, because AM5 takes neither. It is also overkill for a budget Ryzen 5 build where the processor will never ask for that much current, and a cheaper B650 board would leave more money for the graphics card.
What do 14 power stages actually buy you?
Fourteen stages at £127.99 come to £9.14 each, and each one shares the current a boosting Ryzen pulls, so the load spreads wider and each stage runs cooler than on a board with eight. That is what keeps a 16-core chip at its boost clock deep into a long session instead of easing off.
The stage count is the number to weigh against extras. Wireless and storage can be added later with a card or a cable, but the circuitry that feeds the processor is fixed the day you buy. Paying for stages you will use beats paying for a newer wireless standard you will not.
What do you get on the board, and how does a build go together?
It is a full ATX board with a 24-pin main power connector, four DDR5 DIMM slots and support for up to 128 GB, including ECC and non-ECC modules. Those four slots are the practical ceiling for most builds, so plan on two 16 GB sticks now and leave the other pair free for later.
Storage and connections go well past the basics. It runs seven drives in total, with RAID on both M.2 and SATA III, and six SATA III ports for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives alongside the PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. Audio runs 7.1 channels with an optical S/PDIF output, which feeds a soundbar or an AV receiver without an adapter, and the 256 Mbit UEFI BIOS is the layer you will meet every time you change a setting.
Where does the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi fall short?
The memory ceiling is 128 GB. Boards on the same socket from MSI take 256 GB, so a build that plans on dense 64 GB modules runs out of room here sooner than it needs to. Two of the four slots stay free on a normal gaming build, but the limit is the board's, not the processor's.
Wireless is Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.2, and the wired port is 2.5 Gb Ethernet. Newer boards here run Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 and a 5 Gbps port, which matters only if your router is newer than the board and your 6 GHz band is crowded. On plain Ethernet the difference disappears entirely.
How does it compare with the MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi6E and the TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi?
The MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi6E costs £124.70, which is £3.29 less than the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi, and it brings Wi-Fi 6E, a 256 GB memory ceiling and two M.2 slots where this board has more connectors elsewhere. Its 12 stages work out at £10.39 each, so the ASUS is £1.25 cheaper per stage and the MSI is the pick if you want the higher memory limit and newer wireless for a fraction less.
The ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi asks £189, which is £61.01 more, and answers with 17 stages rated at 80A each, Wi-Fi 7, a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and three M.2 connectors. That is the board for a 16-core Ryzen that runs hot and long; for a Ryzen 7, the £127.99 model covers the same work and leaves £61 towards the graphics card.

Questions people ask
Which processors does the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi take?
It is built for AMD Ryzen 7000-series processors on socket AM5, including the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 parts listed for it. The processor has to be an AM5 chip, so a Ryzen 5000 or an Intel Core will not fit the socket.
How much DDR5 memory can the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi hold?
Up to 128 GB across four DIMM slots, and it accepts both ECC and non-ECC DDR5 modules. Two 16 GB sticks fill half the slots and leave room to double the memory later without replacing anything.
How many drives can you connect to the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi?
Seven drives in total, using the PCIe 5.0 M.2 connector plus six SATA III ports for standard 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives. RAID is supported on both the M.2 and SATA sides, so a mirrored pair of drives is possible without a controller card.
Does the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi have Wi-Fi and wired networking?
Yes, it has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 built in, plus one 2.5 Gb Ethernet port for a wired connection. The wired port is the faster and steadier option for online play if the PC sits near a router.
What audio connections does the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi offer?
It runs 7.1-channel audio with an optical S/PDIF output on top of the analogue jacks. The optical port feeds a soundbar, an AV receiver or a separate DAC without needing an adapter.
What power connector and form factor does the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus WiFi use?
It is a full ATX board, so it needs an ATX case and a 24-pin main power connector from the power supply. Check that your case has the standoff positions for a full-size board before ordering.
