Rank #3 in Best Digital Multimeter 2026: 10 Ranked, and the Number That Doesn't Measure Anything
AstroAI TRMS 4000-Count Multimeter, Auto or Manual Range
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The AstroAI Digital Multimeter TRMS 4000 Counts is the third meter in this guide and the second AstroAI. At £17.99 it costs £6 more than the £11.99 AstroAI that sits at number one on 55,860 ratings, and what the extra money buys is a 4,000-count True RMS meter rather than a 2,000-count one: the bullets list AC/DC current, capacitance, frequency and temperature, none of which the cheaper meter reads. Its own 8,850 ratings average 4.6 out of 5.
The contradiction in this listing is the temperature claim. The bullets sell the meter as testing Temperature and the item name repeats it, but the only temperature figure in the specification table is an Upper Temperature Rating of 40 degrees Celsius, and the listing never says whether that is a measurement ceiling or the meter's own operating limit. The same listing calls it auto-ranging in the bullets and "Manual and Auto Ranging" in the item name without explaining how the two modes are chosen, and it counts one meter three ways: Unit Count 1.0 count, Number of Items 1, Number of Packs 1, Included Components "1".
Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing for this meter. We have not tested it.
How those 8,850 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.6 stars.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“I have many years under my belt as an electronics engineer diagnosing component level faults on pcb's and I am used to much more expensive DVM's (digital voltmeters) so I feel qualified to review this one.First off the price is really cheap so I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised that is wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.It's quite light in the hand but feels well made, mostly hard plastic with a hard rubberised outer case which should negate some drops and bangs. The bale stand on the back is flimsy and will probly break if flexed the wrong way too much so just be gentle with it and it should be okay. The screw which holds the battery cover / stand on goes in to a brass insert and not just screwed in to plastic so thats nice. The screen is easy to read at different angles and has nice large numbers on and while isn't the quickest at updating its okay considering the price. The test leads are fine and work okay for general useI cant comment on battery life as I have not had it long, this review is first impressions.I have attached some pictures where I tested the accuracy of this DVM, the DMM Check Plus was Calibrated recently and I checked it with one of my Flukes just before testing the AstroAI DT132A and the Fluke read spot on for each of the tests. The tests performed were AC & DV volts , AC & DC mA and Resistance, you can see the results for yourself.”
Verified purchase“Basic and solid multimeter at a good price. Very good for someone who is venturing into electronics for the first time.”

Questions people ask
Does the AstroAI 4000 Counts measure AC current?
Yes. The bullets list AC/DC Current alongside AC/DC Voltage, and state that True RMS covers both AC current and voltage.
What temperature can it measure?
The bullets list Temperature among the tests, but the only temperature figure anywhere in the listing is an Upper Temperature Rating of 40 degrees Celsius in the specification table, and the two are not linked.
Is it auto-ranging or manual?
Both, according to the listing. The bullets say Auto-Ranging capability, while the item name describes the AstroAI as "Manual and Auto Ranging". The listing does not say how the modes are selected.
How many buyer ratings does it have?
8,850, averaging 4.6 out of 5. The £11.99 AstroAI at number one in this guide carries 55,860.
What is included in the box?
The listing does not break it down: Included Components reads "1", and Unit Count, Number of Items and Number of Packs are each listed as 1.
What safety protection does it have?
Two integrated fuses rated F500mA/600V and F10A/600V, described as explosion-proof ceramic, plus overload protection on all ranges. AstroAI provides a 3 year warranty.
