The Jackery Explorer 240 v2 takes fifth place in our portable power station ranking, and it is the light, affordable way in: 256Wh of capacity, 300W of output and a mains socket, in a 3.5 kg body you can carry in one hand. At GBP 189 it suits a camping weekend, a picnic or keeping phones, a laptop and lights going in a short power cut, without the weight or price of the 1000Wh stations above it. It holds a solid 4.5-star average with 72 per cent at five.

Its specification table is cleaner than the larger Jackery's, without the petrol-generator fields, and it gets the important things right: 230V and a 300W output that match the title. Two small quirks remain. The capacity that defines the product, 256Wh, is not in the table at all, only in the title, and the table still carries a stray "Antenna Location: camping" field that means nothing for a power station. Neither changes what you get; the 240 v2 is simply the compact, honest small station in the range. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.

Questions people ask

What can the Jackery Explorer 240 v2 run?

Its 300W output covers low-draw devices: phones, a laptop, a router, lights, a small fan or a TV, plus anything with a normal plug that draws under 300W. Its 256Wh capacity is enough for a camping weekend of charging or a short power cut, but it will not run a kettle, heater or anything with a large heating element.

How heavy is it?

3.5 kg, a genuine one-hand carry, which is its main advantage over the bigger stations. That makes it easy to take on a picnic, a day out or between rooms.

How much energy does it store?

256 watt-hours. Note that this figure is in the product title rather than the specification table, which omits capacity, so buy on the 256Wh headline. It is a top-up and short-backup device rather than a whole-home one.

Does it have a normal plug socket?

Yes, unlike the DC-only Anker C200. It has a mains socket alongside USB outputs, so it can run a small mains device as well as charge USB gadgets.

What is the "Antenna Location" on the spec sheet?

Nothing relevant: it is a stray catalogue field that reads "camping", left over from a template. A power station has no antenna; it does not affect the hardware.

How do you charge it?

From the mains, and the Jackery range also supports solar and 12V car charging. For a unit this size, mains charging is quick and the usual method.
