Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The T7 is the most reviewed drive in this ranking by a wide margin, and the listing explains why it has stayed the default recommendation: a 1050 megabyte per second read speed over USB 3.2 Gen 2 with hardware AES 256-bit encryption, 1TB of capacity and a portable titanium grey body, in model MU-PC1T0T/WW.
Hardware encryption is the feature the cheaper drives here do not name, and for a drive that carries work or personal files it is the difference between a password prompt and a readable disk if it is lost. At the time of collection it carried 40,783 ratings at 4.7 stars. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.
How those 40,783 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.7 stars.
