Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The TP-Link AV1300 kit costs £101.99 and is rated 4.2 stars from 1,123 ratings, with three gigabit ports, dual band Wi-Fi and passthrough sockets.
It takes ninth because it is the dearest kit here and its own two Wi-Fi figures — 300 plus 867 — add up to less than the 1300 in its name, which takes its numbers from two different technologies.
How those 1,123 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.2 stars.

Questions people ask
Why is the name 1300 if the Wi-Fi is 300 and 867?
The name is a nominal rate; the Wi-Fi figures are the wireless halves.
Does it really do 1300Mbps?
Not in any house, and not from the parts it lists.
How many LAN ports?
Three gigabit sockets.
Will it work in an old house?
A buyer says it depends on the electrics, which is the honest answer.
Why is it ninth?
Because it costs the most and the name does not survive its own specification.
How many ratings does it have?
1123 at the time of collection, averaging 4.2 stars, with 61 per cent five-star and 9 per cent one-star.
