The Hiplok DX1000 is the number two lock in our guide to the ten best bike locks, and at £299.99 it is the most expensive of the ten. Its 32 mm shackle is the thickest claimed anywhere in the group, against the 12 mm quoted on the £18.03 Combo U-lock — on the listing's own numbers that is 2.7 times the steel for 16.6 times the money. Hiplok grades it Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond, and the word to read there is 'powered': that is the motorbike and e-bike standard, not the pedal cycle grade carried by locks costing a fraction as much.
Two things inside the listing do not line up with each other. The fifth feature bullet is headed 'HIGH-VISIBILITY NEON YELLOW' and describes a bright finish acting as a visible deterrent, while the specification field lists Colour as 'All Black'. The same bullet's box contents are cut off mid-word — 'In the box: Hiplok DX1000, 3 coded repl' — so the advert never finishes telling you what arrives; the specification field separately states 3 x coded replaceable keys.
