The LaCie LAC301558 is a 1 TB portable hard drive in a grey and orange shell that the listing describes as dust and water resistant. It finishes fourth in this guide, and it is the entry that makes the guide's point most quietly: the advertised read speed is 130 MB/s.
That figure holds up. The same listing gives a rotational speed of 5,400 RPM and a 2.5-inch hard disk form factor, and 130 MB/s is the order of speed a 5,400 RPM 2.5-inch disk actually reaches over USB 3.0. Set it beside the listings in this guide quoting 625 MB/s — exactly the 5 Gbps limit of the USB 3.0 cable itself, not a speed any spinning platter delivers — and LaCie's number is one of the few that survives a second look. At £100.99, with 4.5 out of 5 from 23,486 ratings, it is also the pricier way to get 1 TB here. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing and the customer reviews attached to it; we have not tested the drive ourselves.
