Rank #6 in Best 5TB External Hard Drive 2026: 10 Ranked, Three Spec Sheets That Contradict Themselves
Seagate 5TB One Touch Portable Hard Drive, USB 3.0
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
Sixth in our guide to 5 TB external hard drives, the Seagate One Touch Portable is a 2.5-inch USB drive in a brushed metal enclosure, listed at £191.99 with 4.6 stars from 3,874 ratings. Unlike some drives above it in the guide, its capacity numbers agree with each other: the product name, the Digital Storage Capacity field and the Hard-Drive Size field all say 5 TB.
The disagreement on this one is about speed. The same listing gives a Read Speed of 120 Megabytes Per Second and a Data Transfer Rate of 480 Megabits Per Second. 120 MB/s is roughly 960 Mb/s, about double the 480 Mb/s the same page also declares — and 480 Mb/s is the ceiling of a USB 2.0 connection, on a product whose title says USB 3.0. There is a third speed field too, Media Speed, written as 1.2E+2 megabytes_per_second, which is the same 120 in scientific notation. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing for this drive, not from any testing we carried out.
How those 3,874 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.6 stars.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“Buying a Seagate drive is always a no-brainer for reliable storage. I bought this 4TB One Touch specifically to use as a Time Machine backup for my Mac, and it works perfectly. You just have to do a quick erase/reformat in Mac's Disk Utility first so Time Machine can recognize it. Once that is done, the automatic backups run smoothly in the background. The built-in password hardware encryption also gives great peace of mind for keeping personal data secure. It's a slim, high-capacity, and dependable drive that does exactly what it needs to do.”
Verified purchase“It's expensive, but all HDDs are these days, just like memory and anything else pc-related. Came with a stupidly short wire, but it's small and literally plug and play. Very quiet running too which is a plus. Reading and writing speeds aren't amazing since it's not an SSD, but not really relevant as this is really to be used as storage, not for running things like games.”
