The Crenova 890Z is a 6000-count True RMS meter priced at £33.97, ranked seventh in this guide. At 4.7 out of 5 from 664 ratings it sits at the top of the rating range this guide covers — every meter in it falls between 4.2 and 4.7 — but it carries a small fraction of the rating volume of the cheapest meter here. What makes the 890Z worth a second look is its own listing: the title promises 6000 counts, 1000 VDC and 750 VAC, the Item Highlight names nine measurement jobs, and the specification table's Measurement Type field names four.
That gap is the thing to check before buying. The highlight lists capacitance, frequency, temperature and NCV; the spec table lists only Ammeter, Multimeter, Ohmmeter and Voltmeter. The bullets go further still, adding transistor (hFE) and a K-type thermocouple in the box — the thermocouple the £11.99 meter that leads this guide does not include, because that one has no capacitance, frequency or temperature range at all. Two spec fields do little work here: "Minimum Operating Voltage: 1.5 Volts" is the AA battery, not a floor on what the 890Z can measure, and "Style Name: Safety" describes nothing you can test. Verified purchase“Unboxing : The product is packed in a strong cardboard outer box. Inside the box is a hardshell carry case, which contains the product. The meter itself is packaged in bubblewrap to protect while in transit.Hardshell carry case : The hardshell case is a real bonus as these are quite expensive to purchase separately and this carry case is custom made for this product, so the fit is perfect with plenty of room for all the accessories. The case opens with a strong zipper and then unfolds into two halves with a net-covered pocket in the left half and an elasticated strap in the right half. These do a good job of holding the meter and the other components.Contents : Inside the carry case is the meter; two sets of test leads (one with crocodile clips); a temperature test lead; 2 x AA batteries; 2 x fuses and an instruction manual that is written in good English. The instruction manual is also available as a downloadable PDF file.Preparation : The batteries have to be fitted. To fit the batteries the battery cover needs to be removed. You will need a star screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the cover in place; this is a quick and easy task.
