Is the noise cancelling really the best here?
For blocking steady outside noise, yes. On planes, trains and in offices it removes more of the drone than anything else in this ranking, which is the reason to choose it. It also has a natural transparency mode for hearing your surroundings when you need to.
Why is the rating only 4.0 stars?
Because of fit and app, not the earbuds' core performance. Some people find the eartips fussy to seal, and the app has frustrated others, which shows in a polarised breakdown with 13 per cent one-star. Are they worth it over cheaper ANC earbuds?
