Rank #10 in Best 1TB External Hard Drive 2026: 10 Ranked, and the 625 MB/s Myth
Storite 1TB External Hard Drive USB 3.0, 2.5 inch, Black
Price and rating as shown on Amazon when we collected them. Both change.
The Storite External Hard Drive 1TB is a 2.5-inch USB 3.0 portable in an aluminium enclosure, listed at £42.99 with a rating of 4.1 out of 5 from 1,066 ratings. It takes tenth place in this guide, and it is one of the listings the guide was built around: the same page quotes a 625 MB/s read speed and a 5 Gbps data transfer rate. Those are not two measurements. 5 Gbps is what a USB 3.0 connection carries, and written as bytes per second that comes to 625 MB/s — the drive's headline read figure is the cable's own limit, repeated in two units.
The specification sheet has more of the same shape. It records a cache memory of 1 TB on a drive whose entire capacity is 1 TB, lists 7200 RPM next to that 625 MB/s figure, and puts a protective pouch in the product bullets that the box contents field does not mention. Buyer ratings split hard rather than clustering: of the 100 ratings in the breakdown, 63 are five-star and 15 are one-star. Everything on this page comes from the Amazon listing and the reviews published on it — we have not tested this drive ourselves.
How those 1,066 ratings break down
An average hides its own shape. This is the spread behind the 4.1 stars.

What buyers actually say
Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon
Verified purchase“I brought this as it's cheap to work with my Wii for usb gx loader and it works perfect, I got the 1tb in red.”
Verified purchase“Just the job. I needed a small hard disk for an older HUMAX satellite receiver. The HUMAX doesn't have in built record, but it does allow an external USB drive to be connected and used to store recordings it makes. It's neat, quiet and conveniently self powered from the HUMAX USB socket removing the need for a mains adaptor.”

Questions people ask
What read speed does the Storite 1TB claim?
The listing states 625 MB/s, and the same listing gives the data transfer rate as 5 Gbps — which is the same figure expressed in different units, since 5 Gbps works out to 625 MB/s.
How much storage does the Storite U-23BLK give you?
1 TB, described as a mechanical hard disk in a 2.5-inch form factor with an aluminium enclosure.
What does the listing say about cache memory?
The field reads 'Cache Memory Installed Size: 1 TB', which is the same figure as the drive's total storage capacity.
What is in the box?
The box contents field lists the portable external hard drive and a USB 3.0 cable. The product bullets additionally mention a protective pouch and one-year manufacturer coverage.
Which devices does the Storite 1TB work with?
The bullets name PC, Mac, Linux, Windows, PS4, PS5, PS3, Android and smart TV. The specification fields separately name Xbox Series S and Series X, Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Vita.
Does the listing agree with itself on speed?
No. It gives 625 MB/s as read speed and 5 Gbps as the transfer rate, which is the same ceiling written twice, so the page never lists a separate figure for how fast the disk inside actually reads.
