The Nanny BM-03 holds number five in this guide. It is a breathing monitor built around a sensor mat: the listing says it is medically certified, suitable for monitoring premature babies from 1 kg, and made in the EU. The mat detects when a baby is placed on it and when they are lifted off, and alerts you if you have laid the baby down but forgotten to switch the unit on. At £169.00 it is the second most expensive product among the prices quoted in this guide — only the £189.00 Angelcare AC25-1 costs more — while carrying 18 ratings at 4.1.

Those two numbers are worth reading together. The breakdown behind the 4.1 is not a narrow cluster near the top: of the 100 ratings recorded in the histogram, 63 are five-star, but 16 are one or two stars — 8 one-star and 8 two-star. A small sample with a fifth of it at the bottom is a different picture from the £149.99 Babysense bundle elsewhere in this guide, which carries 1,162 ratings at 4.4. The specification fields also disagree with the description in two places: the Sensor Type field reads "Auditory" on a product whose premise is a mat under the baby, and Display Size is listed as 3.5 inches, though no bullet or review describes a screen — the listing mentions a night light and flashing lights for temperature instead. The title brands the unit Nanny while the brand field says JABLOTRON. Everything on this page is taken from the Amazon listing, not from any testing we carried out.

What buyers actually say

Quoted from customer reviews on Amazon

“The media could not be loaded. We have been using the BM-03 for our twins now for over 2 months. The product is amazing, its ease of use is fantastic, easy to set up and install. It has enabled me and my wife to achieve solid quality sleep because you have complete peace of mind.We have had just 3 false alarms (keep in mind we have twins) and these were due to one of the twins being a very light breather and he had rolled away from the mat/sensor in a very sizeable cot.The product is absolutely fool proof if you read the instructions and additionally understand how the fundamentals of the product work, to anyone sceptical i would say that the reviews saying this product hasn't alarmed when they have removed their baby, its because you are still standing next to the crib waiting for it to go off or providing vibration for the sensor by changing the baby. I have qualifications in vibration sensors being an instrument technician and i stand by this product completely and would recommend to absolutely anyone. The night light feature of the BM-03 is very handy, the additional temperature sensor has never activated on ours because we keep the temperature quite stable. The alarm sound on this is spot on, its loud enough to enable you to hear it from the other side of the house and believe me you will react instantly and effectively.Value for money.... Worth every penny as you cannot put a price on a good nights sleep in the first few months of being a new parent.”
